Trailer Released For Dark Fairy Tale ‘Gretel & Hansel’ Starring ‘IT Chapter Two’s Sophia Lillis
  |  @   |

Orion Pictures has released a teaser trailer for Gretel & Hansel, a new take on the Brothers Grimm fairy tale Hansel and Gretel which was first published in 1812. The movie stars Sophia Lillis (IT Chapter Two, Sharp Objects) and Samuel Leakey (MotherFatherSon) as Gretel and Hansel, a young girl and her little brother who encounter a woman (Star Trek: First Contact and Carnival Row star Alice Krige) in the woods while in search of food and work.

The original Grimm fairy tale is already pretty dark, but as you’ll see in the trailer, this latest adaptation looks to take the story to even darker places, drawing inspiration from films like Robert Eggers’ 2016 hit The Witch.

‘Transformers 5,’ ‘ Star Trek 3,’ ‘G.I. Joe 3’ & More Scheduled For 2016
  |  @   |

People either love or hate the Transformers film franchise. On one hand, Michael Bay has helped bring the war between the Autobots and Decepticons to life; and on the other, we got to hear many variations of Shia LeBeouf saying “No, no, no.” But the popularity of the source material is one of Paramount’s cash cows, and now they will be extending it as they have announced that Transformers 5 will be hitting theaters in 2016.

Paramount made the sequel announcement recently at a film conference in Europe. Other titles announced for 2016 include: Star Trek 3, G.I. Joe 3, Beverly Hills Cop 4, Hansel and Gretel 2, and Paranormal Activity 5. Hit the jump for more info.

Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters
Directed by Tommy Wirkola
Starring: Jeremy Renner, Gemma Arterton, Famke Janssen, Peter Stormare
Paramount Pictures
Rated R | 88 Minutes

Norwegian filmmaker Tommy Wirkola first gained the attention of Hollywood with his 2007 film, Kill Buljo, a parody of Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill.

Since then, Wirkola has released a pair of low-budget horror comedies with 2009’s Dead Snow, a film about Nazi Zombies in the mountains of Norway, and 2010’s Kurt Josef Wagle And The Legend of the Fjord Witch, a send-up of first-person found-footage movies that combines elements of The Blair Witch Project, Paranormal Activity, and [●REC].

Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters is Wirkola’s first big-budget American film, an R-rated fantasy comedy produced by Adam McKay and Will Ferrell. The film picks up with Hansel (Jeremy Renner, The Avengers) and Gretel (Gemma Arterton, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time) years after that traumatic incident involving a witch, some bread crumbs, and a gingerbread house.

‘Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters’ Trailer: Watch Jeremy Renner Dodge Fairy Tale Bullets
  |  @   |

Originally Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters was supposed to hit theaters last March, but in some last minute decision making, Paramount and MGM decided that the film deserved to be released January 2013. Now we are getting our first look at the film, which features an older Hansel and Gretel (played by Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton respectively) protecting various villages by killing off threatening witches.

Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters is just another movie that takes a childhood fairy tale and puts a slight twist on it. We’ve already seen a couple of these films produce mediocre results, so why should Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters be any different. Well the film is set a couple of years after the events of when the children were nearly eaten by a witch and the sibling witch hunters have an assortment of weapons which includes Gatling guns.
