We’ve reached the penultimate episode for Syfy’s grindhouse summer series Blood Drive. That begs the question, WHY THE **** HASN’T THIS SHOW BEEN RENEWED YET?!?! Sorry… Blood Drive has quickly become a cult favorite akin to video nasty-style gore-tastic films it so often pays homage to. Its fanbase on social media are called #Bleeders.
Last week, we finally got to see goody-two-shoes cop Arthur Bailey (Alan Ritchson) snap. Thinking Grace (Christina Ochoa) was killed in the battle dome, he became the Primo, and singlehandedly murdered everyone left in the pit much to the applause of Slink (Colin Cunningham) and the execs at Heart Enterprises. We also watched in awe as Karma (Alex McGregor) emerged from the skin of Old Man Heart to surprise Grace. While all that mayhem and debauchery was taking place, Aki (Marama Corlett) and Christopher (Thomas Dominique) broke into Heart, overriding their systems, allowing them to move unfettered onward to help Arthur. If you couldn’t tell by this week’s title, this episode will likely be an homage to the notorious series of tapes that emerged in the 1980s…

Just look at the title for this episode and you’ll know why I love Syfy’s latest original show, Blood Drive. This team of writers assembled by show creator James Roland are clearly making entertaining television they want to see, and they know their target audience. Last week, Grace (Christina Ochoa) and Arthur (Alan Ritchson) barely escaped Kane Hill, an asylum overrun by sugar crazed inmates. Grace’s sister wasn’t there, but they did find out that Slink (Colin Cunningham) is much more than just the psychotic connoisseur of the Blood Drive. Meanwhile, Christopher (Thomas Dominique) was tortured by Heart cyborg Aki (Marama Corlett), in scenes that felt like the mutated offspring of 50 Shades of Grey and Caligula.
