We asked you to tweet your support of the NBC show Constantine. And you did. We asked you to pass the word and get other people involved saving the show. And you did. We asked you to issue death threats against NBC executives. And you…wait a second. No, we didn’t. That’s not just illegal, it’s immoral! What are you? Some sort of hellion? Or maybe you, like me, are a Hellblazer fan! I know there are a lot of us but sadly, this time, our voices went unheard. Or, more likely, the proof was NOT in the pudding as far the ratings went. Why didn’t more folks watch this series?
Last month, NBC released a 3-minute trailer for their upcoming show Constantine, which is based on DC’s Hellblazer comic book series.
Now, a new promo is online for the hour-long supernatural drama that contains new footage from the show, as well as a DC universe Easter egg in the form of Doctor Fate’s helmet. Check it out here below and watch for the DC universe cameo – it’s around the 47-second mark in the video. It’s been rumored that the sorcerer Doctor Fate would make an appearance in the pilot episode of Constantine, although it’s not clear if it’s the character himself or just his powerful Helmet of Fate.
In the new series, Matt Ryan stars as John Constantine, a character previously brought to life on screen by Keanu Reeves in the 2005 feature film Constantine. Starring alongside Ryan is Lucy Griffiths, who you’ll remember as Eric Northman’s vampire sister on True Blood.
Warner Brothers is setting themselves up to have a big Fall TV season with pilots in the works for three new shows: The Flash, Gotham, and Constantine. We’ve already had a few reveals this week on The Flash and Gotham, and now we get the first official look at actor Matt Ryan in his role of John Constantine for the upcoming NBC show.
Check out the full photo of Ryan as Constantine here below.
Constantine follows the escapades of John Constantine, an occultist and con-man who occasionally helps people against demons and other supernatural forces. Judging from this image, it looks like the producers of the show, Daniel Cerone (The Mentalist) and David S. Goyer (The Dark Knight) and director Neil Marshall (Game of Thrones) have found an actor who at the very least looks like his comic book counterpart.
