Though Dwayne Johnson wasn’t a part of the Fast and Furious franchise from the beginning, his star power has helped it become what it is today. In fact, he has made it so popular that more and more franchises are coming out, with multiple spinoffs on the way.
Now, Johnson has released a very small trailer teaser for the franchise’s first spinoff Fast and Furious Presents: Hobbs and Shaw. In it, Johnson will reunite with Jason Statham, both of whom are reprising their respective titular roles. Additionally, the actor spoke about how he may not appear in Fast and Furious 9, but recognizes that his character has a score to settle with Dom (Vin Diesel). The Fast and Furious franchise may have its longevity but it’s not without its share of problems. The film has had behind the scenes issues with its cast ranging from a feud between Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson to a feud between Johnson and Tyrese. There is even a concern about how the female members of the cast don’t have enough of a role in the films.
However, the latest troubles don’t involve any of the actors. It involves a lawsuit about Hobbs and Shaw, the first Fast and Furious spinoff, and is between Fast and Furious producer Neal Moritz and Universal. According to the latest report, Moritz claims that Universal has breached an oral agreement they had made. More on the report below.
It may be a bit strange that we aren’t getting a new Fast and Furious film in the near future. But that doesn’t mean we aren’t getting some kind of Fast and Furious film in the near future. The series is taking a bit of a detour from the main saga to give fans the franchise’s first ever spin-off. Hobbs and Shaw will reunite Jason Statham and Dwayne Johnson for a new adrenaline rush with muscle tone actioner that will definitely be fast and furious.
Now the spinoff has just started its first day of production, and Johnson is commemorating the day with a brand new image of Statham and director David Leitch (Deadpool 2). Check it out here below.
Fast 9 is being pushed back to 2020, which is unfortunate news for fans who had hoped they would see Dom and the crew tear up the streets of another city with their souped-up cars.
