Straight from the hip, there is nothing serious about Dungeons & Dragons: Evil At Baldur’s Gate #1 except that it is seriously fun. Imagine, if you will, that we had a mashup of the Dungeons & Dragons cartoon with Teen Titans Go! and it was presented in comic book form. That is essentially what we have here. It’s certainly entertaining, but also, just as certainly, not deep in plot or characters.

In 2017, IDW Publishing partnered with Ominous Press to begin a new line of comics, one they are calling the Ominous Universe apparently. The newest installment in this line is Demi-God #1, a tale of power without the sense of heroism that we have come to expect in comics. If you will give me a few moments of your time, I will give you my opinion of this premiere issue that promises to be a little different, to say the least.

There are many iconic comics and characters that rose to fame in the nineties, but this one is one of my favorites. In The Crow: Memento Mori #1, we get to see the newest incarnation of James O’Barr‘s death defying creation. The premiere issue of this series contains the first parts of two very different tales.

Ragnarok: Last God Standing Vol. 1 TPB
Story and Art by Walter Simonson
Colors by Laura Martin
Letters by John Workman IDW Publishing
Release Date: October 25, 2017
Cover Price: $19.99
When someone mentions the name Thor these days, most folks immediately start thinking of a certain comic book superhero that has been in a few movies lately. If I were to speak the word Ragnarok, then those same people would think I speak of the newest film in that hero’s franchise. But trust me, Ragnarok: Last God Standing Vol. 1 is so much more than that.
In this story, Ragnarok is a thing of the past. Centuries before the start of our tale, the gods and their foes have waged their war across the nine realms and have managed to mostly kill one another off. Entire civilizations have fallen, leaving the survivors to suffer and do anything to survive. Powers still exist but they are far less prominent than before the end times.
