The Raid 2: Berandal trailer header

I’m glad that we are getting The Raid 2: Berandal. For me, it’s great to finally see that Indonesian Cinema can share a spot alongside other great movies during film festivals like Sundance Film Festival or Toronto International Film Festival. And with the film making its big screen debut in just a few weeks at Sundance, fans are eagerly awaiting to see what will happen to the film’s hero, Rama (Iko Uwais), after his crew was decimated trying to raid a 30 apartment building occupied by drug lords, thieves, and criminals. And maybe some electric action scenes too.

The sequel will find Rama infiltrating the same crime ring and getting caught in between two crime families who are fighting over control over the city of Jakarta. Unlike the first trailer which featured Uwais punching the wall at a furious pace, this trailer has new footage, and shows the war between the two families and how far Rama must go to take them down. Hit the jump to see the full trailer.

The Raid 2: Berandal Header

The first Raid was such a punching good time that a sequel was quickly put into development. The Raid 2: Berandal is expected to be another action-packed film that is as subtle as the deadly weapons the characters carry.

With the film having finished principle photography, director Gareth Evans has been presenting a few clips to show audiences what they can be expecting from the sequel, and now the first trailer for The Raid 2 has appeared online. Hit the jump to check it out.

The Raid 2 Iko Uwais

The Raid lived up to the promise of being one of the most thrilling actioners of 2012. Immediately after the film’s success at the Toronto Film Festival and Sundance, Sony Pictures Classic bought the rights to distribute, and when it finally opened in theaters it was a box office smash. Naturally a sequel, The Raid 2 (The Raid 2: Berandal in Indonesia; Berandal translates into Thug in English), was greenlit to continue the story of Rama (Iko Uwais), a rookie police officer and one of the few who survived an onslaught of drug dealers, criminals, and other degenerates in the tight spaces of an apartment complex.

Now production for the sequel has commenced. Gareth Evans, who returns as director for the sequel, has promised us that The Raid 2 will be a departure in many ways and that we won’t be seeing the same sort of action sequences we saw in the first film. With cameras already rolling, we are getting our first look at behind the scenes action of the sequel and a first still that confirms that the sequel will take place hours after the events of the first film.

Collider has provided the first look at the film, featuring returning star Uwais reprising his role as Rama. Check out the photos here below.

RELEASE DATE: August 14, 2012

They just don’t make action movies like they used to…or so it sometimes seems. Every once in a while one comes along that reminds us of that old school high-paced action we love so very much, and one such movie is The Raid: Redemption.

The movie consists of a simple premise: a team of elite cops sets off to an old run down 30-story apartment building to take out a deadly drug lord who runs the building with his men, while also allowing others to rent out rooms, usually to the city’s most dangerous criminals. The raid is supposed to go smoothly, but others have tried before and failed, and when word gets out that the squad is there, pure anarchy ensues. Now the cops are no longer fighting to complete their mission, but to escape the building alive.
