The much anticipated trailer for the trailer for Independence Day sequel Independence Day: Resurgence has finally arrived. Twenty years after the first film became a hit, director Roland Emmerich is back for some more, and he is bringing with him a few familiar faces to the franchise. Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Brent Spiner, Judd Hirsch, and Vivica A. Fox all return to reprise their respective roles. Will Smith is noticeably absent from the sequel – and the reason why is explained in the trailer – but his character’s son will be played by Jessie Usher.
So how much as changed since the events? Well, it appears that the world has adapted the technology used by the aliens to enhance military capabilities. But that is nothing compared to what’s coming when the aliens suddenly return in full forced with a far more advanced technology than the ones they saw back in 1996. Check out the first trailer for Independence Day: Resurgence here below.
It’s been a long time coming, but we’re finally getting a sequel to 1996’s popular alien-disaster movie Independence Day, with stars Jeff Goldblum, Vivica A. Fox, Bill Pullman, Judd Hirsch, and Brent Spiner all reprising their roles.
Goldblum, the Jurassic Park star who last year participated in one of those popular Dinosaur Chase wedding photos, recently joined Facebook, with his inaugural post being a photo of himself on set of Independence Day: Resurgence with co-star Liam Hemsworth providing a nice photobomb.
20th Century Fox has announced the official title for their upcoming sequel to the 1996 blockbuster Independence Day. They also did a Q&A session with the cast and crew recently and released some behind the scenes photos from the set of the movie, which show a large vehicle called the Moon Tug and director Roland Emmerich.
A brief video was released to reveal that the title of the follow-up will be Independence Day Resurgence. The Q&A video, set images, and title reveal video can be seen below along with a synopsis, full cast listing, and release date.
Another actor from the first Independence Day film is making a return for the sequel, Independence Day 2. Vivica A Fox is set to reprise her role as Jasmine Dubrow from the 1996 original film. She joins Jeff Goldblum as the only two actors – so far – to come back to reprise their respective role. Will Smith will not return, and Bill Pullman says he will be back but there has been no confirmation as of yet. Hopefully they’ve at least talked to Mae Whitman about reprising her role as the president’s daughter Patricia Whitmore.
