Guillermo Del Toro’s Horror Video Game ‘inSane’ May Have Found A New Developer

A new horror video game from the mind of the great Guillermo del Toro and inspired in some aspects by the works of H.P. Lovecraft is a video game that’s going to excite people. As it turned out, however, THQ was not among those people.

Unlike his massive R-rated H.P. Lovecraft project, At the Mountains of Madness, which still seeks a new home as he finishes work on his upcoming blockbuster, Pacific Rim, it appears that the video game, titled inSane, may already have a new home.

THQ Cancels Guillermo Del Toro’s ‘inSane’ Video Game Trilogy

Remember that video game titled inSane being developed by Volition Studios along with the great Guillermo del Toro through THQ? Last we heard a year or so ago they had been developing it for about a year with still two to three more years to go, it was being built as a trilogy, and it was going to be a massive sandbox-style game with some truly terrifying beasties to encounter.

Well, as it turns out, THQ either wasn’t impressed enough with what they were seeing, or didn’t want to wait as long as they were waiting to get the game. It’s been announced that the company has canceled pre-production on inSane, effectively reverting the rights back to del Toro.

Guillermo del Toro Says New Game ‘inSANE’ Has H.P. Lovecraft Qualities

Given that Universal Pictures recently denied us of another exciting Guillermo del Toro monster movie””the H.P. Lovecraft adaptation, At the Mountains of Madness“”it’s no great shock that the director has integrated a little Lovecraft inspiration into other projects of his.

For those who didn’t know, del Toro is a geek and a gamer at heart, and he’s been hard at work stepping into the realms of video games. He admittedly was clueless going in, but he’s learned a lot as production on the game he’s working on with THQ and Volition Inc., inSANE, has moved forward. And now del Toro shares that the game has a “Lovecraftian” quality to it, making it even more exciting than it once was.
