20 All Time Greatest Hits, by the late “Godfather of Soul” James Brown, is now available on MP3 format from Amazon this month for only $5.00.
Although he has been dead for a few years now, the presence and soul of James Brown still permeates and penetrates in the public fabric. A master class showman, who had fever pitch passion for everything he did in his musical crafts, which included R&B and supernova hot funk which literally poured sweat and groove from the speakers, the level James Brown ran on kicked everyone’s ass, shook it as well on dance floors globally, and dazzled just about everyone else. The music, style, and attitude of what James Brown did to American music remains an absolute standard and zenith in many ways, his concoction of electrophonic tonic was a drink that went down smooth and bubbled over with moneymakers shakin’ all over town.
This greatest hits collection grabs 20 memorable slices of the Brown cachet and every one of them remains a sonic nugget: the sly horns and quiet thunder funk of “I Feel Good,” the out and out of the same thing with “Sex Machine,” “Mother Popcorn,” and “Make it Funky,” with the constant, consistent bassline driving smoothly across the musical terrain like a landspeeder, “Papa Don’t Take No Mess,” the revengeful and opus “The Big Payback,” and the aching and tender, yet still with the Brown panache and infectious bravado “It’s A Man’s Man’s Man’s World” and “Try Me,” this is essential American music which spans tastes all across the universe and beyond.

Rabid movie geeks will be getting a nifty present this year when Django Unchained, the latest action epic from director Quentin Tarantino, opens on Christmas Day. Not much else is needed to sell people on this movie; if you are anything like me you will have already made plans to go see it on the 25th right after you enjoy Christmas dinner, exchanging presents, and the traditional drinking contest and arm wrestling match with your grandma Freida.
Nonetheless, a new trailer is out today that’s light on plot and heavy on action. Plus we have the track listing and ordering info for the Django Unchained soundtrack album.
You can check out the trailer and the soundtrack info here below.
I had the supreme pleasure of sitting down and chatting with Jeffrey Kaufman via Skype. I must say, this man is hilarious. Never in my life have I done an interview with someone who made me laugh for almost an hour and a half. We spoke about Whore, his new graphic novel, as well as a plethora of other things in comic industry. Kaufman was open and honest on every topic, never hesitating to express his true feelings. I appreciated the candor and hope that you enjoy this as much as I did.
Geeks of Doom: How are you doing today?
Jeffrey Kaufman: It’s been that kind of day for me today. I did a radio show earlier today, it’s kind of funny it’s one of those shows where the D.J.s just beat the crap out of you for a half hour. (laughter)
GoD: How was that? Enjoyable?
JK: In a BDSM kind of way, but it was one of those fun times where you just try to just roll with it. What’s always funny about that is that everyone always says the same thing about it “oh, you’re just trying to get attention.” No, I was actually shooting to have half the stores not carry my books, that was the goal. It’s amazing, people go “oh you’re just trying to be controversial.”  Yeah, that’s what I was doing. (sarcasm) But my intention was to, no matter how the book got reviewed, to get my ass kicked by every store owner on the planet, yeah”¦ that was the goal. (laughter)

Don’t be ashamed of your perversions. The title grabbed my attention, too. We’re all nasties here. While I certainly encourage everyone to embrace their affinity for the filth, there’s much more to Whore than its salacious title and eye-catching cover. Are there whores in this book? Yep. Are there any sex scenes? Tons. Is there nudity? Yeah, in an Austin Powers, conveniently-placed-objects-block-the-good-parts kind of way. So, if that’s all you’re looking for, then read no more and buy this comic. Everything else that’s awesome about Whore is just gravy for you.
Jacob Mars was a CIA operative who was good at two things: hooking up with chicks and killing people. Along the way, he amassed a monthly child support payment of $100,000. Luckily for Jacob, the United States government was thrilled to toss $200,000 of taxpayer’s money into his bank account every month for his services. The party ends abruptly for the assassin when, out of nowhere, he is a victim of government downsizing. Jacob must now find a way to pay the bills in the private sector. Luckily for him, he’s a hot commodity in the mercenary market and quickly finds work.
