The fact that we are getting James Gunn films from both the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the DCEU is a gift. After the director was fired by Disney on their third Guardian of the Galaxy film – but before he was subsequently reinstated – Gunn was brought in to write and direct The Suicide Squad. The new film, which was considered to be a soft reboot at the time, is not loosely using the term, as characters and actors from David Ayer‘s original film are returning. Jai Courtney will be back to play Captain Boomerang, and now Viola Davis will return as Amanda Waller.
However, Idris Elba, who was tapped to replace Will Smith as Deadshot, is no longer being considered for the role of the assassin with deadly accuracy. More on the report here below.
Before James Gunn can sail through space with the Guardians of the Galaxy for the third time, he’s going to be directing a different kind of misfits in the DC Extended Universe film The Suicide Squad. And though the film is being considered a reboot, with actors like the departing Will Smith being replaced by Idris Elba as Deadshot and other actors like Margot Robbie being rumored to return, it looks like the filmmaker will be mixing in some memorable rogues with very obscure criminals.
According to new reports, Jai Courtney is said be coming back to play as Captain Boomerang. At least that’s what he’s telling us. Find out what he had to say about his “return” below.
Eight months after Disney firedJames Gunn over decade-old distasteful tweets, the studio has reversed its decision and has officially reinstated the filmmaker as the director of Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3.
Deadline says Gunn will still continue to work on The Suicide Squad before moving on to Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3, a film, which was supposed to start production earlier this year. The next sequel would have ushered in Phase 4 of the MCU, something that we are still unclear about.
It looks like Deadshot will be coming back for Suicide Squad 2, which is now going by the title The Suicide Squad. Just not the Deadshot you know. Will Smith, who was the first to play Floyd Lawton aka Deadshot, was forced to exit the role because of scheduling conflicts. But it didn’t take too long for Warner Bros. to find his replacement. According to new reports, the studio is eyeing Idris Elba to play the role of the sharp shooting assassin.
Not only that, Warner Bros. is “barreling towards the casting process,” as the studio is loving what screenwriterJames Gunn has turned in. More on the report below.
Sony Pictures Entertainment has released a new trailer for Brightburn, a superhero horror flick.
The movie comes from producer James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy, Slither), and offers a twisted take on the superhero tale. It tells a Superman-like story of a young boy with super powers from another planet who ends up on Earth. But as he discovers his special gifts, he passes up the opportunity to do good with them and instead opts for very dark deeds.
You can find more info on Brightburn and check out the new trailer below.
