Yesterday came the surprise announcement that Jason Reitman, the Oscar nominated director behind Juno and Up in the Air and the son of original Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman, will be directing a sequel to those beloved original flicks. The long-awaited Ghostbusters 3…at least until they announce an official title. Even more surprising was that Jason had been developing the sequel in secret, co-writing the screenplay with Monster House director Gil Kenan, and that it would actually begin filming in just a few months.
Now, to keep building on that, a teaser video for Ghostbusters 3 has been released. It’s not much, as you would expect from a movie that hasn’t begun filming yet, but it’s definitely a teaser made to strike some nostalgia chords with fans. You can check it out below.
But unlike the 2016 reboot starring Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones, Melissa McCarthy, and Kristen Wiig, which told its own story and was not connected to the 1984 original and its 1989 sequel, this latest entry in the franchise will be a sequel set in the same universe as the originals which continues that story. So, basically the Ghostbusters 3 fans have wanted for so many years.
It’s also going to be directed by someone with a strong connection to the series, Jason Reitman, whose father Ivan Reitman directed the first two films.

For some, parenthood is easy and comes almost naturally. For others, it can be a bit of a challenge. And I cannot say that I am an authority figure on motherhood, given my clear lack of experience, but Jason Reitman‘s Tully, a comedy-drama starring Charlize Theron and Mackenzie Davis, is probably one of the most honest depictions of what it is like to be a mother in a contemporary age. Check out my full review of the film here below.
