Last week MTV’s Scream made me… well, very angry. Main character Emma (Willa Fitzgerald) who is being both physically and technologically stalked by a masked killer (who by the way has killed 3 of her friends already), AND who just got exposed on the net, as her first sexual encounter went viral decided to… you guessed it… HAVE PUBLIC OUTDOOR SEX IN THE DARK WOODS!!! If nothing else, that should lessen her chances of survival in a show based off a franchise known for its adherence of horror movie “rules.” Then again, Neve Campbell’s Sid did have sex with one of the killers in the original, and she survived the whole series.

Last week on MTV’s new horror series Scream, things got good and scary. Riley’s death put the whole town on notice, and when Emma (Willa Fitzgerald) was sent an old yearbook filled with clues, she, Audrey (Bex Taylor-Klaus), and Noah (John Karna) end up in a horror movie staple – the abandoned hospital. There they find bloody pig remains, a Brandon James mask, and Tyler’s rotting head. Noah is convinced it’s the killer’s lair, but Sheriff Hudson (James Wiles) interrupts, and the three are safe for another week. One of the things retrieved from the hospital was a flash drive; the only useful thing taken off it is a recording of Emma’s first sexual encounter with Will (Connor Weil) and whoops… it just went viral.

“Hello Emma. How’s it feel to be the star of the show?”

MTV’s ‘Scream’ Renewed For A 2nd Season!
  |  @   |

Only 5 episodes into its first season on MTV, Scream has been renewed for a second season on the cable network. The network, once upon a time known for music videos, forayed into the world of serial horror series with the hit show Teen Wolf in 2011. Piggybacking off that success, and the explosion of horror themed shows on network and cable TV, Scream debuted in late June. And while the show tends to be more Melrose Place and less Halloween, it has maintained a steady audience in its targeted demographic.

YES! This is what I want from an episodic horror series! After a disappointing third episode, which felt like a bad episode of the OC, MTV’s Scream hit all the right buttons this week. The show encapsulated everything you’d expect from something called Scream. And in an odd twist, the acting wasn’t bad either!

MTV

After plenty of texting and YouTube uploading throughout the first two episodes, MTV’s Scream finally got “Scream-ish” at the end last week when an ADT-style security worker turned out to be the killer toying with Emma (Willa Fitzgerald) on the phone. The police are no closer to solving Nina’s murder and Audrey (Bex Taylor-Klaus) is distraught over her closet-girlfriend Rachel’s suicide (which was really a murder). Podcaster and serial killer analyst Piper Shaw (Amelia Rose Blaire) arrived looking into Lakewood’s haunted past, and Noah (John Karna) is having too much of a good time providing background and exposition.
