Deal: ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm: The Complete Seasons 1-6’ DVDs
  |  @   |

We’re nearing the end of Amazon’s week of HBO deals, with today’s Gold Box spotlight deal being Curb Your Enthusiasm: The Complete Seasons 1-6 on DVD for $89.99 (that’s 62% off the list price $238.98).

This sale is only for today til midnight PST while supplies last.

This deal bundles together the six individual season DVDs (meaning, it’s not a box set). If you do the math (which I typically do), you’ll that that works out to about $15 per season as opposed to the nearly $40 list price — even with Amazon’s usual discount, each season averages around $30. Therefore, this is a huge savings and definitely worth getting if you’re a fan of the series.

For those of you not familiar with this half-hour HBO series, it stars Larry David, who co-created Seinfeld and was the basis for the George Costanza character. In Curb, David plays himself, which if you thought Costanza was outrageous, you should see the “real” Larry David.

‘Toy Story 3’ Casting & ‘Cars 2’ Details Announced By Disney/Pixar
  |  @   |

It feels like it has been a week since any news that didn’t involve Disney has come out. The Mouse House recently held their D23 Expo and a flood of announcements were made, including some new information on the highly anticipated sequels Toy Story 3 and Cars 2.

Toy Story 3 basically just made a bunch of casting announcements. /Film picked up on some Tweets from director Lee Unkrich and Disney that revealed that John Morris, the boy who voiced Andy in Toy Story and Toy Story 2, has been cast once again in the role, which now sees Andy as an 18-year-old young man. Also added to the cast is a great collection of names, some of which are Pixar veterans. Lending their voices once again will be Bonnie Hunt (A Bug’s Life/Cars/Monsters Inc., Jerry Maguire) and Jeff Garlin (Wall-E, Curb Your Enthusiasm); while new to the Pixar dance is Whoopi Goldberg (Ghost) and Timothy Dalton (Hot Fuzz), who will apparently be playing someone named Mr. Pricklepants.

Deal: Curb Your Enthusiasm: The Complete Seasons 1-6 For $83
  |  @   |

Continuing their week of HBO deals, today’s Gold Box spotlight deal at Amazon is Curb Your Enthusiasm: The Complete Seasons 1-6 for $82.99 (down 65% from $238.98).

If you do the math (which I typically do), you’ll that that works out to less than $14 per season as opposed to the nearly $40 list price — even with Amazon’s usual discount, each season averages around $30.

Most episodes are packed with famous actors, also playing themselves, and typically, Larry David will always put his foot in his mouth and do something extremely inappropriate. It’s funny as hell, but also so cringe-inducing, as you can’t believe some of the things he does. What makes this show really stand out is the fact that the episodes are not scripted. Each episode has a storyline, but then the actors improvise their dialogue, which is what makes the situations they’re in seem all the more real.

Comedians Cheryl Hines and Jeff Garlin (Wall-E) are in character as David’s wife and best friend, respectively, while frequent reoccurring guest stars are Richard Lewis, Ted Danson, and Wanda Sykes (all as themselves).

DVD Review: Wall•E (3-Disc Special Edition Blu-ray)
  |

WallӢE
3-Disc Special Edition Blu-ray
Directed by Andrew Stanton
Starring Ben Burtt, Elissa Knight, Jeff Garlin, Fred Willard
Walt Disney Home Entertainment
Release Date: November 18, 2008

The states of bewilderment and wonderment that was colonized in characters and stories involving toys, fish, cars and rats isn’t as powerfully conceived with robots. That is not to say Wall”¢E falls flat on its face either. There is truth to be told in a post-apocalyptic animated film that echoes a kids version of An Inconvenient Truth. Yet, as the ego unceasingly begins to swell at the studios of Pixar, they should realize that conquering space is much more arduous than conquering a boy’s bedroom, a French restaurant, a run down Route 66, and the Atlantic Ocean.

There is something magnificent lurking in the first half of Wall”¢E, the half that winces at the use of any dialogue for the first 40 minutes and magically pulls it off. The camera comprehends the same magnificence as well as it journeys down from space playing the tune “Put On Your Sunday clothes,” only to find itself coming through the clouds to meet a desolate Earth where the human race is no longer present. We glimpse massive skyscrapers that aren’t made of metal but of neatly packed squares of rubbish. They are neatly placed atop of each other courtesy of the last trash clean-up robot on Earth named WALL”¢E. He continues his normal routine everyday not really knowing that he’s all alone save for his best friend, a cockroach.
