DOCTOR WHO Season 8 Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman

The BBC released the first full length trailer for Series 8 of Doctor Who yesterday during the World Cup. Previous glimpses of series 8 have merely whet the appetite with the viewing public. We saw Peter Capaldi in silhouette. We saw the TARDIS control room exploding. We heard a Dalek-like voice, possibly Davros. Now we get more, a full bite of what Series 8 will be about. At a full sixty seconds, here at last are details: a Dalek eye stalk, a Tyrannosaurus Rex in Westminster, Madame Vastra saying “here we go again,” a stylized robot, the new Doctor asking Clara “Am I a good man?,” and Clara saying with a long pause “I don’t know.”

Check out the new trailer here after jump.

or is he the Thirteenth Doctor?

After months of rumors and speculation among fans of Doctor Who, amped by odds placed online by bookies in the UK, the BBC has finally announced Matt Smith‘s successor. Peter Capaldi is now the next Doctor to take the helm of the TARDIS, and the resulting announcement will be sure to spur much discussion among fans online.

Peter Capaldi is no stranger to the Whoniverse. He had a role in The Fires Of Pompeii, and also played politician John Frobisher in Torchwood: Children Of Earth. It’s not unprecedented for an actor previously in Doctor Who to land the title role – Colin Baker, the Sixth Doctor, is one famous example of this. What is surprising though is that Capaldi was the top pick of the bookies, marking perhaps the first time they got it right!

What better way for geeks to celebrate this national holiday than to kick back with a few cold ones and watch the personification of the USA in the Marvel Universe: Captain America: The First Avenger.

And honestly, good ol’ Cap is more important in Marvel than you think. Sure, he leads The Avengers; but Marvel’s most popular heroes, such as Spider-Man, Wolverine, Deadpool, and now Iron Man thanks to Robert Downey Jr., tend to eclipse the important responsibility Captain America has played to the evolution of the Marvel Universe.

Captain America is the personification, not of the United States, but instead for which it stands. I’m not talking about liberty or justice or freedom or patriotism. I’m speaking about people – it’s the people that make this nation so special. And Cap personifies that element, that deep down, we all have the potential to be good people; and that it is not our abilities that make us who we are, but the choices we make.
