I’m pretty much game for anything written by Cullen Bunn, therefore it should come as no shock that The Unsound #1 would make its way onto my desk. Always creepy and a little twisted, his horror stories tend to be dependable sources of entertainment and each comic series unique.

This one finds a nurse making her way to her first day at work at a mental institution. But as she makes her way there, we see the world outside is just as dark, twisted, and suffering as anything that could be inside the hospital. That is, until we see what is inside.

Cannon Cove, Oregon has nothing going for it except that once upon a time, long ago, a movie that was destined to become a kids’ cult classic was filmed there. You might have heard of it: The Gloomies*. You know that Gloomies never say die, right? Too bad the town never lived by that motto.

In Misfit City #1 we watch as local kids find a real adventure in their little hometown.

Ladycastle #1 is candid look into what would happen if all the knights and soldiers went off to war and (mostly) got themselves killed. Bill & Ted’s Triumphant Return #1 is a comic that I’ve been waiting for since 1991! When we last left Bill and Ted, they had just won the San Dimas Battle of the Bands, and were on their way to musical greatness and changing the world as we know it. And, they lived happily ever after, right? Not so fast….

BOOM! Studios got writer Brian Lynch to tackle the, well, triumphant return of Bill and Ted, and they couldn’t have made a better choice. This comic truly captures the spirit of the Bill & Ted films, and moves the story along a natural path to what would happen next. And Lynch managed to find a logical place for all the characters that we loved in the movie: The good robot versions of Bill and Ted, The Princesses, Station, The Grim Reaper, and everyone else. With a cast so big, you’d think that someone would get lost in the shuffle, but thankfully, none of them do.
