‘Big Fish’ Writer Hired For ‘Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark’ Movie

Just about a year ago it was reported that Saw writers Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan were working on an adaptation of the horror books Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. Now comes word that a new writer is being brought in for the project.

It’s being reported that CBS Films has hired screenwriter John August to come in and take over writing duties. August has previously worked on multiple Tim Burton scripts, including Big Fish, Corpse Bride, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Dark Shadows, and Frankenweenie.

Six Vintage Classic Horror Inspired Posters For Tim Burton’s ‘Frankenweenie’

Disney will be releasing Tim Burton‘s latest stop-motion animated feature Frankenweenie this Friday. So to mark the special occasion, the studio has unveiled six vintage posters inspired by some of the great horror movie classics. Like Sparky, which is a dog that has Frankenstein-like qualities, these posters feature the other household pets seen in the film sharing some sort of trait with a classic horror monster.

Check out all six vintage posters below.

Based on the live-action short of the same name, Frankenweenie follows a boy named Victor who successfully brings his beloved dog back to life by using the miracles of science. When his classmates find out about this, they attempt to do the same thing in order to win the school science fair. However, their attempts do not warrant the same results as Victor’s did.

New Character Images From Tim Burton’s ‘Frankenweenie’ Released

Some new character images have been released for the upcoming Tim Burton stop-motion flick, Frankenweenie, which will hit theaters on October 5, 2012.

The movie is an adaptation of Burton’s own short live-action movie of the same name, and reunites the director with many talents he’s worked with in the past, including actors Catherine O’Hara, Martin Short, Martin Landau, and Winona Ryder, as well as writer John August.

Tim Burton’s ‘Frankenweenie’ Puts Together A Voice Cast

A group of actors have been assembled to voice roles in Tim Burton‘s feature adaptation of his own short film, Frankenweenie.

And as for the names joining the film, they’re all familiar with the ways of Burton. The first four voices signed include Martin Landau, who appeared in the director’s Ed Wood and provided a voice in the Burton-produced 9; Winona Ryder, who starred in both Edward Scissorhands and Beetlejuice; Catherine O’Hara, who also starred in Beetlejuice and offered her voice for The Nightmare Before Christmas, and Martin Short, who was one of the many stars in Mars Attacks!, will both be voicing five different characters each.

Tim Burton Set To Enter ‘Dark Shadows’ With Johnny Depp Next Fall

Even more vampires are in the news today, as it’s being reported that after Alice in Wonderland, director Tim Burton will next tackle Dark Shadows with his constant, Johnny Depp. The proposed remake of the 1966 daytime soap opera had been talked about plenty, but it was never clear when Depp and Burton would get together for it. As you might imagine, a show that featured vampires, werewolves, ghosts, monsters, zombies, time travel, and other wild and scary elements was a bit edgy for 1960s television, let alone daytime TV. Depp will play a vampire named Barnabas Collins

Producer Graham King was out promoting The Young Victoria recently, and in a group interview, he made the announcement.
