John Carpenter‘s Halloween is one of the greatest horror films ever made, and turned the filmmaker from an up and coming director to a horror legend. If Psycho is the mother of all horror movies, then Halloween may be its spiritual son.

Forty years after its 1978 theatrical release, Halloween spawned not only sequels and remakes, but an entire sub-genre: the slasher film. This Friday, October 19th the 11th movie to enter the long-running franchise opens worldwide. This new film, also called Halloween, was directed by David Gordon Green (Pineapple Express) and written by Green, Danny McBride, and Jeff Fradley and is a direct sequel to Carpenter’s seminal classic. With that in mind, it’s a perfect time to revisit the original in the best way possible, with the new 4K Ultra Blu-ay Combo Pack.

John Carpenter Teases Possible ‘They Live’ Sequel
  |  @   |

The long-awaited next movie in the Halloween franchise will finally arrive in theaters in just a couple of days. And it’s a special one. Not just because it brings back original star Jamie Lee Curtis and original Michael Myers/The Shape Nick Castle, but also because the man behind the original, director and co-writer John Carpenter, was once again involved in making the film as an executive producer, creative consultant, and composer.

Obviously those involved with the movie are doing their part to promote it, including Carpenter. And while the focus is mainly on Halloween, other things sometimes come up. During a recent chat, Carpenter hinted at a possible sequel to his 1988 sci-fi horror cult classic They Live. See what he had to say below.

NYCC 2018 Interview: ‘The Standoff’ Writer David J. Schow of Storm King Comics
  |  @   |

Booth 2304 at this year’s New York Comic-Con was once again occupied by the fine folks at Storm King Comics. Led by matriarch Sandy King Carpenter, they welcomed writers, artists, collaborators, and more. I was there to interview Mike Sizemore, who contributed an 8-issue story, Vortex, to the John Carpenter’s Tales of Science Fiction comic book anthology. I was introduced to David J. Schow, writer of countless novels, short story collections as well as the noted screenwriter of The Crow and Leatherface: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Part III. Schow is currently working with Storm King on The Standoff, the latest in the monthly Tales of Science Fiction line. See below for my interview with Schow.

NYCC 2018 Interview: ‘Vortex’ Writer Mike Sizemore of Storm King Comics
  |  @   |

New York Comic-Con wrapped earlier this month and for the second straight year I was excited to hang out at booth 2304, with the crew from Storm King Comics, some of the very best in horror and genre fiction. John Carpenter is the Master of Horror, but he is a jack of all trades. Well known for his extensive filmography he has branched out into other mediums in recent years. His wife, producer and collaborator Sandy King Carpenter, founded Storm King Productions and in 2015, Storm King ventured into the world of comics and graphic novels with titles such as Asylum, and anthologies like Tales For a HalloweeNight and Tales of Science Fiction. The second story in John Carpenter’s Tales of Science Fiction was Vortex, an 8-part saga dealing with hidden evils inside a space mining colony. I got a chance to share a couch with Mike Sizemore the author of Vortex, and discuss the comic book series, his inspirations, and working for Storm King.
