Last week was one of my favorite The Last Man On Earth episodes ever. Phil (Will Forte) had accidentally left Carol (Kristen Schaal) at a gas station, and couldn’t find her. Carol waited, mirroring Phil’s apocalyptic beginning. He was so desperate to find her, he went to Tucson even though it would mean his death (they burned down his house). He came up with a genius idea to spray paint a train with a message to her. And it worked! Phil had a Tandi moment when he found a note from the gang that they went to Malibu. Since they didnt want Phil, he hid it… for a little while. But his love for Carol overcame that, and soon they headed out. Carol went to feel out the gang, jumped out and screamed, “Boo!” And killed Will Ferrell.

The Last Man On Earth‘s 2nd season premieres tonight and it’s a whole different ballgame now. At the end of last season, Phil Miller (Will Forte) had been banished from Tucson by its 6 other residents. New Phil Miller (Boris Kodjoe) had taken him there rather roughly. Carol (Kristen Schaal) returned to him because they belonged together. That was a fist pumping in the air, “Yeah!” moment. They drove off. Cut to: space and Jason Sudeikis is an astronaut named Miller who’s searching for life on Earth from his space station.

Last night was the finale! And what a satisfying end to the season, with a tease of excitement to come! Do NOT continue if you haven’t watched The Last Man On Earth 1.13 “Screw The Moon” yet, because there are spoilers.

The first week, there was just Phil (Will Forte) and then Carol (Kristen Schaal). The second and third week brought us Melissa (January Jones). The fourth week had Todd (Mel Rodriguez) jump in the mix. Then we got a week off from new people. Finally, we met Mary Steenburgen and Cleopatra Coleman. And last but not least, new Phil Miller (Boris Kodjoe) shows up. Does anyone show up this time?

Congratulations to The Last Man On Earth returning for Season 2! Let’s see what Phil Miller (Will Forte) and the gang have been up to, before we get into the review for this week’s doubleheader, 1.9 “The Do-Over” and 1.10 “Pranks For Nothing.”

Two weeks ago, during The Last Man On Earth’s 1.7 “She Drives Me Crazy” and 1.8 “Mooovin’In,” Phil had made some progress with Melissa (January Jones) by just being honest. I don’t know why he cannot get this through his thick skull. This made him even more jealous of Todd (Mel Rodriguez). He just did not understand how someone could move past outer beauty to the inner beauty. The foursome create some sort of government complete with grievance board. And… Phil found a real live cow! Although Phil really wanted burgers and steaks, he was outvoted in favor of fresh milk and dairy products. On top of everything else, Carol (Kristen Schaal) really wants them to live together.

The Last Man On Earth 1.9 “The Do-Over” & 1.10 “Pranks For Nothing” review:

“Aw Phil. Sleep apnea is a part of who I am. Just like dandruff and aggressive night toots are a part of who you are.”

That right there is really what marriage is all about. Carol has that correct. But Phil doesn’t seem to understand. As is obvious in the title, Phil wants a do-over and asks God for one. God seems to listen by delivering…

Spoilers if you have not seen the episode yet! Do not continue reading if that is the case!
