Warning! Spoilers below for the season 4 premiere of Gotham!
Last season on Gotham was just bananas, as we lost 2 (sort of 3 then 4 then 3 again) major characters. Bruce ran Alfred (David Mazouz, Sean Pertwee) through with a sword, but Ra’s al Ghul (Alexander Siddig) told him to use the Lazarus Pit to restore him. Bruce vowed to never join him. Jim (Ben McKenzie) accidentally killed Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett-Smith) and she and Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor) had a touching moment before she died in his arms. Penguin got the drop on Nygma (Cory Michael Smith) and froze him into an ice sculpture. Barbara killed Butch (Erin Richards, Drew Powell) and then Tabitha (Jessica Lucas) killed Barbara. Lee left Jim (Morena Baccharin) after he wouldn’t run away with her and he injected her with the cure for the Tetch virus. A masked Bruce Wayne stopped a robbery in progress.

Last week on Gotham, someone put out a hit on Mario (James Carpinello), and Jim (Ben McKenzie) saved him twice, but not before seeing that something was not quite right with him. Bruce (David Mazouz) found The Whisper Gang who are rebelling against the Court of Owls, and decided to join them. Nygma (Cory Michael Smith), convinced that Butch (Drew Powell) had Isabella (Chelsea Spack) killed, gave Tabitha (Jessica Lucas) an impossible choice: lose her hand or let Butch die. Butch gave a sweet speech and she sacrificed her hand. Nygma realized too late that he had the wrong guy. Barbara (Erin Richards) figured out the real culprit.

Last week on Gotham, Harvey and Jim (Donal Logue and Ben McKenzie) chased down the leads as to who framed Jim, and all roads led to Riddler (Cory Michael Smith). Nygma almost got the drop on him, but Jim escaped and trapped him into capture. His name was cleared. Bruce (David Mazouz) went back home after Alfred (Sean Pertwee) told him that Lucius Fox (Chris Chalk) got into his dad’s computer. Selina (Camren Bicondova) was upset. Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor) found out that his dad was murdered by his wife, so he killed her children and fed them to her. He’s back!!! Barbara (Erin Richards) was released from Arkham and showed up at Jim’s door. Surprise!

Last week on Gotham, Alfred (Sean Pertwee) freaks out and smashes the batcave electronics, in an attempt to keep Bruce (David Mazouz) safe. Bruce fires him, but relents in a tearful (for me) way. To make it up to him, Alfred seeks out Lucius Fox (Chris Chalk) for help. That was the normal part of the episode. The crazy bananas part started with the Maniax tossing people off a building to announce their arrival. Then they tried to barbecue some cheerleaders, but Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) saved the girls. The bloody icing on the death cake is what happened to the GCPD. Barbara (Erin Richards) lured Jim from the station. That’s when Jerome (Cameron Monoghan) et al., shot up the precinct, and killed Essen. Dr. Thompkins survived, and Nygma (Cory Michael Smith) threw himself on top of Ms. Kringle. She’s definitely gonna like him now. I hope she can hold his split personality at bay. I love him.
