During last night’s Super Bowl Universal Pictures debuted the latest preview for their summer alien invasion epic/board game adaptation Battleship.
You can watch the TV spot here below.
The minute-long TV spot is little more than a sizzle reel of destruction, awesome-looking aliens (where the writers and director Peter Berg playing Halo during the development process?), and a hard rock soundtrack. In other words this looks like the ideal summer event flick. I just hope there’s a really juicy steak among all this sizzle being sold, instead of that slab of rancid beef jerky that was Cowboys & Aliens.
Universal Pictures has released a new image and international poster for their upcoming summer tentpole sci-fi action board game adaptation Battleship.
Both the poster and image feature the same theme: humanity overwhelmed by massive alien technology. The studio is hoping the multiple Transformers connections and similarities will help make Battleship a huge hit. It couldn’t hurt. At least they’re not springing for a last-minute, headache-inducing 3D conversion to boost their fortunes. Then again, the premiere isn’t for a few months so there’s still time.
Seasoned veteran actor Liam Neeson has joined the cast of Battleship, the movie based on the popular board game of the same name that sees players calling out locations in hopes of striking and sinking their opponents strategically placed fleet.
Neeson will play a Naval officer named Admiral Shane, whose daughter (played by model Brooklyn Decker) is engaged to a young officer played by lead Taylor Kitsch (X-Men Origins: Wolverine, John Carter of Mars). Also starring in the film is Alexander SkarsgÃ¥rd (True Blood, Zoolander), who will play Kitsch’s brother, and pop star Rihanna.
Eric Northam was a Viking in his day. Hundreds of years later, he’s a vampire sheriff, and one of the more popular characters on HBO’s hit show, True Blood.
Eric is played on the show by the massive Swedish actor, Alexander Skarsgård, son of Stellan Skarsgård, who now has himself a new job. Skarsgård has been cast in the upcoming Hasbro board game-turned feature film, Battleship.
In the movie, SkarsgÃ¥rd will play a naval officer and sibling to Taylor Kitsch‘s character — also a naval officer — who’s close to and looks up to his brother. If you’ll recall, Kitsch was cast in the lead role back in April after things didn’t quite work out with Jeremy Renner.
Filming has begun in for the new cinematic adaptation of the Warren Ellis graphic novel, Red. The Summit Entertainment production started principle photography in Toronto this week, and with a strong cast and crew, it looks to find some of that sought after success in the world of comic book adaptations.
The film’s impressive cast features Bruce Willis, Mary-Louise Parker, Academy Award®-winners Morgan Freeman, Helen Mirren, Richard Dreyfuss, and Ernest Borgnine, John Malkovich, Karl Urban (Star Trek, Lord of the Rings), Brian Cox (Super Troopers, Troy), Julian McMahon (Fantastic Four, Nip/Tuck), James Remar (Dexter, Battlestar Galactica) and Rebecca Pidgeon (The Unit, The Shield).
