Must Watch: ‘Boondock Saints 2’ Red Band Trailer Is Here NOW!
  |  @   |

How long have we waited, my friends? Ten years now, and after a long production process and painful post-production wait, the glorious trailer for Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day has been released to the masses!

As with most first trailers, you’re mainly going to find a lot of eye candy here. You of course get to see the MacManus brothers back in action, you’ll get peeks at returning characters like Il Duce (Billy Connolly), and then you get a taste of the new characters, which includes the new sidekick, Romeo, and Willem Dafoe‘s (who’s not returning) protege, who is hot on the brother’s tails. Oh, and of course, there’s a hell of a lot of shootin’ going on here.

For those of you silly peoples who aren’t familiar with the original 1999 cult classic, The Boondock Saints: it tells the story of two brothers who believe that they do God’s work by dispatching those who are associated with evil, because the justice system doesn’t take care of it. The script was raved about in Hollywood circles, but much complications arose, and the larger studios who were producing it stepped away, leaving up-and-coming director Troy Duffy to find independent financing and make the movie as big as possible on a small budget. The lacking budget can surely be seen in the movie, but it quickly amassed a giant cult following who have literally been rabid for a sequel for the last decade — a sequel they now have.

Click on over for an official plot synopsis and the trailer! Be warned: the trailer is Red Band and semi-NSFW due to a small amount of naughty language, so you will have to prove you are an adult of sorts.

DVD Review: Dexter: The Complete Second Season (Blu-ray)

Dexter
The Complete Second Season, Blu-ray Edition
Starring: Michael C. Hall, Julie Benz, Jennifer Carpenter, Erik King, Lauren Velez
Paramount Home Entertainment
Release date: May 9, 2009

One of the most original and entertaining shows on TV returned for a second season with vigilante serial killer Dexter Morgan (Michael C Hall). After following Dexter’s journey of self-discovery in the first season, this time around viewers watch Dexter struggle with new, complicated emotions as he tries to evolve as a person and a killer.

The second season of the hit Showtime series has some serious strengths and weaknesses. First and foremost, the plot goes to the obvious logical step in exploring Dexter’s world by seeing what would happen if Dexter’s crimes were discovered. When a group of scuba divers discover the bodies of Dexter’s victims, he must struggle with keeping up appearances while trying to cover tracks he never thought would be uncovered.

All the while, Sgt. Doakes (Erik King), who was simply suspicious of Dexter in the first season, is now convinced Dexter is hiding something, and stalks him everywhere. This makes Dexter’s usual nighttime activities impossible. The stress of controlling his impulses, avoiding suspicion, and coming to terms with having killed his own brother, Dexter’s internal turmoil is increased ten-fold.

DVD Review: Dexter: The Complete First Season (Blu-Ray)

Dexter
Season 1 – Blu-ray Edition
Starring: Michael C. Hall, Julie Benz, Jennifer Carpenter, Erik King, Lauren Velez
Paramount Home Entertainment
Release date: January 6, 2009

Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) is quite possibly the most interesting anti-hero character on TV. The vigilante serial killer uses his day job as a blood splatter analyst for the Miami Police Department to help put criminals in their place. At night, he uses the training his cop father (James Remar) gave him to kill those who slip through the cracks.

In the first season of the critically acclaimed Showtime series, we’re introduced to Morgan and his methods as he engages in a game of cat and mouse with another serial killer known as The Ice Truck Killer. Along the way, we’re introduced to his step-sister (and fellow cop) Debra (Jennifer Carpenter) and her numerous relationship troubles, his “damaged” girlfriend Rita (Julie Benz), and his aggressively suspicious co-worker Sgt. James Doakes (Erik King) whose sixth sense makes him a constant antagonist for Dexter.

DVD Review: ‘Saw V’ Unrated

Saw V
Unrated Director’s Cut
Directed by David Hackl
Starring Tobin Bell, Betsy Russell, Julie Benz, Scott Patterson, Costas Mandylor
Lionsgate Home Entertainment
Release Date: January 20, 2009

I’ve never been a big fan of the Saw series. After the first two (and the sequel is better than it has any right to be) I tuned out to the phenomenon even though as a horror fan I couldn’t escape it. Ever since 2004 there has been a Saw sequel released every year right around Halloween and the series’ devious mastermind Jigsaw (Tobin Bell) has been elevated to the status of an iconic fright flick maniac. While I may not be his biggest fan, I can certainly understand his enduring appeal. For a generation raised on gruesome tales of masked madmen stalking dumb, nubile teens to their brutal deaths the Saw franchise, initiated in 2004 by writer Leigh Whannell and co-writer/director James Wan, is like a bit of fresh air. I’d hate to admit it but these films are at their best slasher flicks with a brain and a deranged imagination. The tagline for Saw II was “Oh yes, there will be blood” and as Saw V clearly proves, brother you don’t know the half of it.

Judd Nelson & Peter Fonda Join The Cast Of ‘Boondock Saints 2’
  |  @   |

In an announcement that no one likely saw coming, legendary actor Peter Fonda (Easy Rider, Ulee’s Gold) as well as Judd Nelson (The Breakfast Club, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back) have both joined the cast of Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day.

This news, released by DCP Boondock II Productions, comes as filming has just about finished over in Toronto, so it seems as if director Troy Duffy has been saving some of the best for last.

Mr. Fonda will be playing a character who has quite the intriguing name, The Roman. No word as to who The Roman is or what he does, but it sounds nice and scary to me. Judd Nelson will be playing Concezio Yakavetta, whom I’d be silly not to assume is a member of the mafia family from the first film; likely seeking revenge for his fallen brother? Maybe cousin? Could be interesting.

As we know, the movie also stars Sean Patrick Flanery and Norman Reedus as the Saints and Billy Connolly as their father Il Duce. Also new to the party is Clifton Collins Jr. as Romeo and Julie Benz as Eunice.
