The Disney Channel and Kenny Ortega are back together for a new musical TV movie this Friday, July 31st, at 8pm ET. Descendants has quite an original premise. Belle (Keegan Connor TracyOnce Upon A Time) and The Beast (Dan PayneThe Cabin In The Woods), have unified the kingdoms, and “got himself elected as king of The United States of Auradon.” He banished all the evil people to the Isle of the Lost.

Disney’s ‘Descendants’: A New Live-Action TV Movie Featuring Offspring Of Classic Disney Characters

It’s official: Disney has announced the development of an original television movie called Descendants based on the teenage children of several fan-favorite villains. And with the ever-popular fairytale genre in both TV and film (Once Upon A Time, Grimm, Snow White and the Huntsman, the forthcoming Maleficent, among a multitude of others), why not?

The movie will be directed by Kenny Ortega, who’s worked with Disney in the past on projects like Hocus Pocus and the High School Musical movies, and written by Josann McGibbon and Sara Parriott (Runaway Bride, Desperate Housewives), with a 2015 Disney Channel premiere planned.

‘High School Musical’ Director Kenny Ortega Brought In To Remake ‘Dirty Dancing’

Deadline is reporting that Kenny Ortega has been tapped by Lionsgate to direct a remake of the 1987 hit, Dirty Dancing.

Ortega actually choreographed all of the dancing seen in the original movie, so it’s somewhat fitting that he return to direct the remake. He went on to direct music–heavy titles like all three High School Musical movies and Michael Jackson’s This Is It, as well as episodes of various TV shows including Chicago Hope, Grounded for Life, Ally McBeal, and Gilmore Girls.

High School Musical 3: Senior Year (HSM3-SR) can best be described as an excuse for dancing, singing campiness.

High school basketball superstar Try Bolton (Zac Efron) has to decide what he wants to do with his life when he graduates. His father wants him to follow his basketball talent, but Julliard comes to scout his drama talents. His girlfriend, Gabriella Montez (Vanessa Hudgens) has been accepted to Stanford University in California. His girlfriend encourages him to join the school play. Also in the play is diva Sharpay Evans (Ashley Tisdale), her choreographer brother Ryan Evans (Lucas Grabeel), basketball buddy Chad Daforth (Corbin Bleu), and talented composer Kelsi Nielsen (Oleysa Rulin). The quirky drama teacher Ms. Darbus (Alyson Reed) leads the group through their most important play.
