The House with a Clock in Its Walls is Eli Roth‘s first foray into children’s films. Based on the 1973 novel of the same name by John Bellairs, the film is a first-time collaboration between the filmmaker and Amblin Entertainment.
Normally, the spirit of Amblin films and Roth’s horror influence would make for an interesting combination. But the result is an odd concoction of mixed feelings and a film that, at times, can feel like it is at war with itself. Check out the full review below.
Universal Studios has released the second trailer for The House with a Clock in Its Walls. The family friendly horror comedy is directed by Eli Roth and stars Jack Black as an eccentric uncle who also happens to be a warlock, and Cate Blanchett as his witchy neighbor who is as charming and equally mystifying.
The film is actually based on the beloved children’s classic written by John Bellairs and illustrated by Edward Gorey, which is about a young boy who accidentally awakens the dead, and it is up to the strange town of witches and warlocks to rally together to put them to rest. Check out the latest trailer as well as a new poster below.
Eli Roth collaborating with Steven Spielberg‘s Amblin Entertainment is something that you’d think would never happen in a million years. One dives into the world of horrors beyond anyone’s imagination and the other explores the world of imagination. But with the right material, the two could be paired nicely. That’s what we are getting with Roth’s adaptation of The House with a Clock in Its Walls.
Based on John Bellairs‘ children story, with illustrations by Edward Gorey, the film follows Lewis (Owen Vaccaro), who moves into his uncle’s (Jack Black) creepy old house with a mysterious ticking clock and ends up accidentally waking up the dead. Check out the full trailer below.

The Doors cuts a jagged swath through the life of singer Jim Morrison, one of the most charismatic and exciting figures in rock history. The film begins with Morrison’s arrival in California and explores his assimilation into the Venice Beach culture, his relationships with girlfriend Pamela Courson (Meg Ryan) and future bandmate Ray Manzarek (Kyle MacLachlan), and the origin of The Doors. As fame takes its toll, Morrison spirals downward into an inferno of drugs, alcohol, public obscenity, arrests, and depression. As director Oliver Stone puts it, during his insightful audio commentary, “Morrison was the poster child for a nation on the verge of a nervous breakdown.”
