Warning – SPOILERS for AMC’s The Walking Dead…

Last week’s The Walking Dead backtracked to show us what happened after Eugene’s capture from Alexandria by Negan. The Saviors brought the cowardly man back to the Sanctuary, and instead of throwing him into a cell, they gave some very accommodating living quarters. There, Eugene learns that Negan has grand plans for his big brains, as do Negan’s plotting wives. He learns firsthand what happens when someone isn’t loyal to Negan. In the end, he comes to appreciate his newfound standing at the Sanctuary, and when asked by Negan who he is, Eugene quickly replies correctly, “I am Negan,” solidifying his place at the Sanctuary.

This week’s episode, 7.12 “Say Yes,” follows Rick and Michonne out on the road looking for guns to bring back to the Heapsters, who had promised to help Rick fight the Saviors if he supplied them with the weapons. We see the couple finding few supplies and then making love, showing that even during these desperate times, they are enjoying their time alone together. They eventually come upon two Saviors playing golf in the road, and manage to steal some of their provisions before driving away undetected.

Warning – SPOILERS for AMC’s The Walking Dead…

Last week’s The Walking Dead was all about Rick trying to get various groups to join his fight against Negan and the Saviors. The Hilltop colony and the Kingdom both turned him down, as they were too scared to mess up the respective agreements they have with the Saviors. But then Rick and crew went searching for Father Gabriel, who’d been captured by a new group, the Heapsters, who Rick — after successfully surviving a feat of strength — convinced to join him. Their leader, Jadis, is a hard woman of few words, but it was clear that she’s no one to be trifled with. But Rick was just happy to have the numbers, and he smiled his way through their entire encounter.

On this week’s episode, 7.11 “Hostiles and Calamities,” we return back to Negan and the Sanctuary, in a storyline that picks up right after Daryl’s escape. Dwight, who was guarding Daryl, finds his captive’s darkened cell empty and then his own room ransacked, with a note left behind reading “Go now” in script. He realizes what’s happened just as his door is broken in and he’s beaten down by his own comrades as Negan, with his bat Lucille in hand, looks on.

Warning – SPOILERS for AMC’s The Walking Dead…

On last week’s mid-season 7 premiere of The Walking Dead, Rick and some of his crew from Alexandria went to both the Hilltop colony and the Kingdom to get the two communities to join his fight against Negan and the Saviors. But both of those groups turned Rick down, fearing that they’d lose if they went up against the Saviors. It seemed like the Alexandrians would remain on their own. When they returned home, they find their pantry has been emptied and Father Gabriel is gone. At first, it seemed as if Gabriel made off with everything and abandoned them, but Rick knows better. He found a clue left behind – the word “Boat,” and figured out that he must return to the boat area where they’d recently found supplies. When they arrive back to the area, they are surrounded by a new group of people carrying weapons. But Rick wasn’t afraid; instead, he smiled.

In the latest episode, 7.10 “New Best Friends,” we find out why Rick was smiling and what happened to Father Gabriel, as well as what’s happening back at the Kingdom and with the self-exiled Carol.

Warning – SPOILERS for AMC’s The Walking Dead…

The first part of Season 7 of The Walking Dead was a tough one to get through, as it began with the brutal death of two main characters, including one who was extremely popular with fans. All of this was at the hands of the new bad guy in town, Negan, who proved in eight episodes that he was bigger and badder than any other villain that Rick and the gang have come up against before. Week after week, we watched as Rick yielded to Negan’s sadistic will and his group at Alexandria became subjugated to The Saviors.

The 90-minute mid-season 7 finale, Episode 7.8 “Hearts Still Beating,” which aired back in December, finally brought us hope that Rick and his crew might be able to rise above once more. Daryl escaped his dark cell at Negan’s Sanctuary compound, and he and Jesus make it to the Hilltop Colony, where Maggie, Sasha and Enid were holed up. At the episode’s end, we see the aforementioned characters greet Rick and his crew — Tara, Michonne, Rosita, and Carl — who have arrived to make a plan to stop Negan, which will include a possible team-up with King Ezekiel and The Kingdom, and perhaps even with the women of the Oceanside colony.

Warning – SPOILERS for AMC’s The Walking Dead…

Last week’s episode of The Walking Dead saw Carl sneak into the Sanctuary and immediately get captured by Negan, who spent the entire time showing the boy how powerful he is. At the end, Negan took Carl back to Alexandria, where he found baby Judith and considered possibly settling down there. At the Sanctuary, captive Daryl got an opportunity for escape. Rick and Aaron took off to scavenge for Negan; Michonne went off on a secret mission of her own; Spencer’s knowledge of Latin came in handy; and Eugene made a single bullet for Rosita.
