Lethal Weapon Header

In a world of reboots, whether in television or film, one tends to feel a strange mix of excitement and skepticism. The nostalgia for the old cannot reconcile with the expected letdown of the new, because the original lives on your imaginary pedestal. FOX is trying its hand at Lethal Weapon, and from the glimpse we get from this sneak peek, I believe it is worth it to give it a chance. Why, you ask?

Check out the synopsis and sneak peek below.

FOX has released a few trailers for some of their upcoming series and TV movies based on popular older movies.

Lethal WeaponOK, while it’s not 100% guaranteed never ever to happen, it does now look like we won’t be seeing Lethal Weapon 5.

As you may recall, producer Joel Silver was just waiting to hear back from Mel Gibson and it appears that Mr. Gibson was heard from. The LA Times spoke to Lethal Weapon‘s first director Richard Donner, who said said that Gibson is a no-go.

Mel turned it down. I would like to think that Mel turned it down because I wasn’t involved. Knowing Mel, I would like to think that. Would that be the kind of thing he does? It sure would be.

‘Lethal Weapon 5’ Waiting On Mel Gibson; May Be On Fast Track

Lethal WeaponIt looks like the only one thing keeping Lethal Weapon 5 from moving forward at the moment is Mel Gibson and his seemingly hard-to-obtain blessing.

Shane Black — who wrote all previous Weapon films (and The Monster Squad!) — has written the 5th movie’s script and is hoping to direct after successfully writing and directing the extremely entertaining Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.

All things now rest in the hands of Gibson himself and whether he wants to step back into those shoes again. My presumption is that it won’t be too long before he gives the treatment a run through and decides, but you never know.

Top 10 Buddy Cop Movies

Starsky & HutchThe “buddy cop” film genre was a staple of the 1980s when the likes of Mel Gibson, Tom Hanks, and Arnold Schwarzenegger jumped on board to make these action-comedies, which, no doubt, helped propel them to superstardom.

There seems to be different interpretations as to what categorizes a film as a “buddy cop” movie. Typically, it’s an action-comedy with the improbable partnering of two cops, though at times one law enforcement officer paired with a civilian will suffice (because, hey, it’s just that much more “zany” that way). But there’s certain aspects we’ve come to expect from these movies: two polar opposites – who’ve somehow stepped out of line on the job – get vindictively matched up by their curmudgeony superior who wants to teach them a lesson and have them catch the bad guys in the process. If there’s only one cop (which, I personally don’t really consider to be a true buddy cop scenerio), that means he’ll be forced to seek assistance by someone who’s more a hindrance than a help (this is usually the “outrageous comedy” variety).

Of course, whoever the partners may be, they’re usually both stubborn, unyielding, and prefer to work alone, so they’ll immediately butt heads – that makes for good comedy (“whacky” even). But in the end, something like having a near death experience and mutually causing millions of dollars’ worth of collateral damage will bond the unlikely duo against the greater forces of evil and in the span of one movie, turn them from adversaries to life-long friends.

There’s been a slew of these films in the last few decades, most just a carbon copy of the next, so here’s a look at the Top 10 Buddy Cop Movies.
