MEG: A Novel of Deep Terror

The long in development giant shark movie MEG has found its female lead. It’s being reported that Sirens and The Vow star Jessica McNamee has joined the cast of the Warner Brothers title, which is based on the Steve Alten book MEG: A Novel of Deep Terror.

McNamee joins Jason Statham, who’s set for the male lead, and Fan Bingbing on the cast. The movie was set to be helmed by Hostel and Cabin Fever director Eli Roth, but he departed the project a handful of months ago. Roth left due to budget concerns after Warner Bros., coming off a rough year at the box office, wanted to pull things back a bit on the expected $100 million MEG budget. Now the movie will be made by Cool Runnings, National Treasure and its sequel, and The Sorcerer’s Apprentice director Jon Turteltaub.

Transformers fans sat through three movies without seeing the Dinobots make an appearance, but for the upcoming fourth one, Michael Bay is making sure that they will make one grand entrance.

As you might have guessed from the header, Transformers 4 will have Dinobots. But instead of calling it just Transformers 4, Paramount has retitled the film, which will now be called Transformers: Age of Extinction. There have been rumors as to what the title could really be, and Paramount has bought a few domain names to throw a few people off, but in the end they have settled for Age of Extinction. Li Bing-BingEarlier this month, I spoke with The Forbidden Kingdom screenwriter John Fusco and his influences that helped forge the script. Now, I am lucky enough to speak with one of the film’s co-stars, Li Bing-Bing, who makes her Hollywood debut playing Ni Chang, better known as The Bride With White Hair.

Geeks Of Doom: Thank you for taking some time today to answer some questions about your current film, The Forbidden Kingdom which is your first English language film, after ten years of acting in Hong Kong cinema. Did you have any trouble adapting to an American production work schedule?

Li Bing-Bing: I was very lucky to be part of The Forbidden Kingdom. The Forbidden Kingdom has a fantastic filmmaking team with director Rob Minkoff, cinematographer Peter Pau, martial arts choreographer Yuen Woo-Ping, and Jet Li and Jackie as world class martial artists and teachers. Everyone was very professional. The Forbidden Kingdom cast and crew also had a great team spirit attitude — they had high expectation for all cast members, no matter that their backgrounds maybe. Everyone had the same treatment and everyone was thoughtful as well. I quickly became accustomed to the U.S. filmmaking culture and learned a lot from the experience.
