Original KISS Members Ace Frehley and Peter Criss Perform Together For First Time In 13 Years (Video)
  |  @   |

Original KISS members Ace Frehley* and Peter Criss performed together this week for the first time in 13 years at the 30th anniversary celebration for radio host and TV’s That Metal Host star Eddie Trunk.

The Spaceman and The Catman, both of whom originally left KISS in the early 80s, but returned to the group for the 1996 reunion tour and subsequent album Psycho Circus, jammed together at the Hard Rock Cafe in New York City on Wednesday, October 23, 2013, along with Anthrax members, bassist Frank Bello and guitarist Scott Ian; former Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy, and Guns N’ Roses guitarist Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal.

With Frehley on lead guitar and Criss on drums, along with a combination of the aforementioned musicians, the former bandmates rocked out on KISS tunes “Parasite,” “Got To Choose,” “Hooligan,” “Love Her All I Can,” and “Rock And Roll All Night” — the latter three performances can be seen here below in a fan video that was taken.

$3 MP3 Album Deal: ‘The Runaways’
  |  @   |

Right now, The Runaways, the debut album from the band The Runaways, is on sale in MP3 format for only $2.99.

Released in 1976, The Runaways is the debut album from the 1970’s all-girl rock band featuring Joan Jett, Lita Ford, and Cherie Currie, who were teenagers at the time – all the girls were around 16 at the time and their ages were even listed on the album’s back cover. The 10-track album features the band’s breakout hit “Cherry Bomb,” as well as “You Drive Me Wild,” “American Nights,” “Thunder,” and a cover of Lou Reed’s “Rock & Roll.”

All this for only $3!!! The Runaways is one of my favorite bands of all time and this album was my introduction to them as a little girl who wanted to play rock music. HIGHLY recommend.

Browse all 100 albums on sale this month for only $5 each and those for $2.99 and up as well as several albums on sale for $0-$5 each and select live albums on sale for $5.99 each.

Remembering Rock Drummer Randy Castillo
  |

Rock drummers are a notorious breed. They are constantly the butt of many jokes, which many have come to deserve. But there are a few who sidestep the stereotype, playing on some of the greatest songs and albums in rock history, who deserve their well-earned level of respect. Fewer still deserve as much respect as Randy Castillo.

Born Randolpho Francisco Castillo on December 18, 1950 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Castillo first came to prominence when he performed on the Lita Ford album Dancin’ On The Edge.

Castillo was best known as the drummer for Ozzy Osbourne‘s band from the mid-1980s to the early-1990s. He played on The Ultimate Sin in 1986, which was the final album to feature guitarist Jake E. Lee. He also played on the first two Ozzy albums which included Lee’s successor, the young Zakk Wylde: No Rest For The Wicked and No More Tears, as well as the two live albums Just Say Ozzy (which also featured Ozzy’s ex-Black Sabbath bandmate, bass player Geezer Butler) and Live and Loud.

He would later go on to replace Tommy Lee for the Mötley Crüe album New Tattoo. Sadly, in more ways than one, this would prove to be Castillo’s final album recording.

Contest: ‘Neon Angel: A Memoir Of A Runaway’ Book
  |  @   |

The Runaways, which stars of Kristen Stewart as Joan Jett and Dakota Fanning at Cherie Currie, is based on Currie’s autobiography Neon Angel: A Memoir of a Runaway, so to celebrate the film’s wide release in theaters this weekend, we here at Geeks of Doom have five (5) copies to give away to some lucky readers!

Five (5) winners will each receive:

  • One (1) copy of Neon Angel: A Memoir of a Runaway

I’ve read the book and trust me, it’s a good one. Currie talks about her upbringing and then goes into detail about her time with The Runaways, which was an all-girl teenage rock band in the 1970s and if you see the movie (which I suggest you do), you’ll see how just how hard these young girls had it and what they did for rock and roll. Currie’s original version of the autobiography has been out of print since the 1990s, but thanks to It Books, the book is not only back in print, but has also been improved upon. I now only three copies of this book (2 of the original; one of the new version), so yeah, I’m lovin’ this contest. So, enter to win!!!

TO ENTER: There’s just two simple steps:

(1) Make sure you’re subscribed to the Geeks of Doom email digest. If you’re not then click here and sign up. (If you’re already a subscriber, then go right to the next step.)

(2) Fill out the entry form here below and submit. (Form is here after the jump.)

Good luck!
