The Toxic Avenger

Back in 2010, Hot Tub Time Machine director Steve Pink was going to direct a remake of The Toxic Avenger. In 2012 John Travolta was rumored to be up for a role, then in 2013 Arnold Schwarzenegger was in talks to star. In 2016, it was Sausage Party director Conrad Vernon being brought in to helm. The point being, we’ve been hearing about the remake for a while.

This past December Legendary Entertainment acquired the feature film rights to The Toxic Avenger and made it a priority. Now they’ve found the latest name to attempt to make the movie a reality, as Macon Blair has been hired to write and direct what’s now being called a reboot.

Transference

Back at E3 2017 we saw a trailer for a game called Transference. It comes from SpectreVision, a company co-founded by Elijah Wood which is known mainly for its film production (Cooties, A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night, The Boy), and Ubisoft. The game aims to blend the worlds of movies and video games into one experience, with both gameplay and live-action video. The cast includes Macon Blair, who starred in Blue Ruin, Green Room, and the upcoming Hold the Dark from director Jeremy Saulnier.

Another trailer was released for E3 2018 a couple of months back, and now a gameplay walkthrough video and demo trailer have been released for Gamescom 2018. You can find more info on the game, as well as both of those videos along with the E3 2018 trailer below if you missed it.

I Don't Feel at Home in This World Anymore

Another day, another trailer for something coming to Netflix soon that looks great. Just this month we’ve already seen trailers for original movies like Girlfriend’s Day, The Discovery, and iBoy, and new series Santa Clarita Diet, which all look worth a peek. And the streaming giant isn’t slowing down either, after making a number of acquisitions at the Sundance Film Festival happening right now out in Park City, Utah.

The trailer you can watch below is for a movie titled I Don’t Feel at Home in This World Anymore. It stars Melanie Lynskey as a woman pushed too far when she’s robbed, and Elijah Wood as her neighbor who helps track down the thieves. The movie is the directorial debut of Macon Blair, an actor best known for playing the lead in the intense 2013 thrilled Blue Ruin.

Blue Ruin movie

Blue Ruin
Directed by Jeremy Saulnier
Starring: Macon Blair, Amy Hargreaves, Devin Ratray and Kevin Kolack
Picturehouse Entertainment
Release Date: April 25, 2014

From certain indications one can begin to question very early on in Blue Ruin what exactly it is that is going on. For nearly the first fifteen minutes all dialogue has virtually vanished. The only discernible sounds are the occasional grunts and groans of a middle-aged homeless man scouring the Delaware beaches and carnivals for any remnant of already devoured food. This approach to begin a film this way is exceedingly rare in contemporary cinema. We are used to the huge spectacle films making an immediate, fantastical impact to lure us into their world. Seldom do such films resort to the tactic Blue Ruin employs so effortlessly. Director Jeremy Saulnier, who also shot and scripted the film, conceals the film’s penchant for violence only for so long until he finally finds it necessary to violently plunge us forward into a world littered with individuals with many irredeemable qualities.
