‘Lip Sync Battle’: Queen Latifah Vs. Marlon Wayans
  |  @   |

Last night’s Lip Sync Battle brought us the talented performing powerhouse of Queen Latifah, who did “My Lovin’ (You’re Never Gonna Get It)” by En Vogue, and “Rock The Bells” by host LL Cool J himself. A member of the Wayans comedy dynasty, Marlon Wayans came out strong and performed “Happy” by Pharrell, and Sam Smith’s “Stay With Me.”

Lip Sync Battle Preview: Queen Latifah Vs. Marlon Wayans
  |  @   |

Lip Sync Battle pits Queen Latifah Vs. Marlon Wayans, and that should be a show. Just from the bits they released so far, you know it’s going to be over the top. Wayans, host of I Can Do That variety show, does “Happy” by Pharrell, and the Queen, star of HBO’s Bessie, performs “Rock The Bells” by host LL Cool J himself.

Marlon Wayans Returns To Scary Movies In ‘Paranormal Activity’ Spoof ‘A Haunted House’ Red Band Trailer
  |  @   |

A new spoof is on the way, this time taking on the Paranormal Activity franchise and other found footage types, which is titled A Haunted House.

The movie stars Marlon Wayans, who was part of the first two Scary Movie flicks (the only two worth watching) trying to recapture some of that absurdly silly R-rated parody magic.

Whether he’ll achieve that goal or if the movie will end up in the massive pile of mind-bogglingly awful spoof movies we’ve seen over the past decade or so remains to be seen. For now, you can watch the Red Band trailer for the movie below. NSFW warning in effect after this point.

Blu-ray Review: Dungeons & Dragons 2-Movie Collection

Dungeons & Dragons 2-Movie Collection
Blu-ray Edition
Directed by Courtney Solomon/Gerry Lively
Starring Jeremy Irons, Marlon Wayans, Thora Birch, Mark Dymond
Warner Home Video
Release date: February 15, 2011

I guess I am the resident Dungeons & Dragons expert here at Geeks of Doom, so when the new 2-disc Blu-ray combo pack of Dungeons & Dragons and D&D: Wrath of the Dragon God came across our desk, I was the first one offered to check them out. I’ve never seen these movies before, but I know of them by reputation, and I was curious to see if they lived up to those reputations. All I really wanted out of them was a decent adventure movie that at least gave a tip of its hat to the popular roleplaying game. What I got was one decent adventure movie, and one really bad but really goofy adventure movie.

The first Dungeons & Dragons movie, which was originally released in 2000, stars Jeremy Irons, Marlon Wayans, and Thora Birch and follows a couple of thieves (Wayans and Justin Waylin), a mage (Zoe MClellan), a dwarf (Lee Arenberg), and an Elf (Kristen Wilson) as they search for a magical item that will control dragons and save their kingdom. There are some D&D elements thrown in, notably the dragons, a few dungeons, and some Beholders, but they didn’t use a lot of the more specific items I would have liked to find in a D&D movie. They don’t use any specific worlds from the game and it really feels like more of a generic fantasy world than anything specifically tied to the D&D game.

Double Deep Sigh: Owen Wilson In ‘Marmaduke’ & ‘Berenstain Bears’ On The Way!
  |  @   |

It’s quite likely that 99.9% of you have already decided that you will not be seeing either of the movies discussed here based solely on the title of this post. Sadly, you are perfectly fair to judge so quickly, and you are not alone in your disdain for these and other childhood characters (liked or not) being made into feature films.

First up, it’s being reported that Owen Wilson has signed on the dotted line to voice the role of Marmaduke, a giant clumsy CGI dog based on the 1954 comic strip of the same name. The movie will do the same as all of these movies do in mixing CG and live-action. The plans for a Marmaduke movie have apparently been around for a while now as it has a cast of known names that will surely regret ever agreeing to appear in it down the road. The names include William H. Macy, Judy Greer, and Lee Pace as live-action characters, while Steve Coogan, Emma Stone, Damon Wayans, George Lopez, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Marlon Wayans, and Fergie will all voice CG characters. You might as well call it Beverly Hills Chihuahua 2: Honey, I Blew Up the Chihuahua. Marmaduke is set for release in June of 2010 — get excited.
