Dark Horse Comics had another announcement at 2014’s San Diego Comic Con International with word of the upcoming release of The Art of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. The massive tome “collects over 30 years of behind-the-scenes material, lore, and classic imagery” from the classic Mattel toy line.
The Art of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe is being made with the cooperation of various Mattel and He-Man historians and will include “rarely seen images of concept sketches, prototypes, and more from Mattel’s archives. Featuring beautifully restored art from master illustrator Earl Norem“”celebrated artist of the most memorable He-Man images!”
The book will be in comic stores on April 1, 2015 and other bookstores on April 14, 2015, so start saving up your money now. Take a look at the cover and some sample pages from the book below and remember, you have the power.
Sony Pictures’ long-in-development live-action reboot of Masters of the Universe recently lost its latest director when Jon M. Chu (G.I. Joe: Retaliation), who had signed on to the project in the summer of 2012, departed to make the next G.I. Joe sequel. Back in October Pirates of the Caribbean and The Mask of Zorro co-writer Terry Rossiowas hired to pen a new draft after a previous effort by Alex Litvak (Predators) and Mike Finch didn’t pass muster with the studio.
This reboot is apparently of great importance to the franchise-famished Sony because they have put together a list of potential directors to take over for Chu, and if this list is genuine, then Masters of the Universe could turn out to be pretty damn great after all.
We’ve been hearing about a new He-Man movie for longer than I care to remember, with seemingly countless names shifting in and out of duty trying to make it happen. Columbia Pictures is still determined to make Masters of the Universe a reality, and so they are now enlisting the help of someone with big time blockbuster and franchise experience on their resume.
It’s being reported that Terry Rossio has been brought in to work on the He-Man script, following the many others who have tried their hand.
Note – this deal is only for today, Wednesday, June 19, 2013, until 11:59pm PST while supplies last (and at TFAW, supplies don’t last so grab this now if you want it at a discounted price).
If/when the deal runs out, you can still get the Masters Of The Universe Toon Tumblers Box Set for $44.98 through Amazon.
In the coming months, Funko will be releasing tons of ’80s-themed vinyl POP! figures to decorate the shelves of your geek lair.
