Greta Gerwig

It is almost funny to think that studios are releasing films based on toys and board games, but some properties are so popular that not adapting them into a film would be a huge missed opportunity. And things are about to get exciting for the Barbie film.

Yes, there will be a film based on the iconic doll, and it has Margot Robbie playing the central figure. Now the film has just snatched up two very credible writers. According to new reports Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach will be partnering up to write the script for the film. More on the report below.

I was never a huge He-Man or She-Ra fan, folks. I was actually a teenager when the cartoons were coming out. I was quite familiar with the Mattel toys, though. My youngest brother, Michael, possessed any number of the action figures and accessories prior to the airing of the cartoons. So while some folks are consumed with nostalgia for this franchise, I am not one of them. I do, however, acknowledge the impact it had on fans. That and Castle Grayskull was kind of badass.

But anyway, we are here to discuss He-Man and She-Ra: A Complete Guide to the Classic Animated Adventures so keep on reading for the skinny on this amazing book!

The Art of He-Man review
The Art of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe
Written by Tim & Steve Seeley with James Eatock
Dark Horse Comics
Release Date: April 28, 2015
Cover Price: $39.99

The Art of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe is, at its core, a love letter to the best toy franchise in the history of the world. Yes, I am a HUGE He-Man fan, and yes, I’m biased. But, at the very least, you have to respect a toy line that didn’t come from another medium, took on a life of it’s own, and made literally BILLIONS of dollars for the Mattel toy company and has continued on, in one form or another, to this very day.

He-Man Image

A new movie based on the popular Mattel toy He-Man has been in the works for more years than anyone who’s been excited to see the movie cares to admit. For a number of reasons things just haven’t worked out, whether it was budgetary issues, script/story problems, and so on.

Last we heard, G.I. Joe: Retaliation director Jon Chu was in talks to be the next to take a swing at making a new He-Man movie, titled Masters of the Universe, a reality. Now Chu is talking about his excitement and plans for the movie, and you can read what he’s saying below.

Captain Power and the Soldiers of the Future

From time to time I find myself revisiting television shows and films that were integral parts of my childhood, but I haven’t actually sat down and watched in many years. For example, last week I watched The Monster Squad on a Blu-ray I had to bid $30 for on Ebay because the disc is no longer in print and it came as no surprise to me that the movie still holds up as charming, kickass entertainment for kids and adults alike 25 years after its less-than-stellar theatrical release.

My latest nostalgic obsession is a TV show that made its debut the same year as The Monster Squad and also suffered an unjust fate before it had the chance to grow into a beloved hit, a reputation that – like many movies and shows before it – has been redeemed over time thanks to an ever-increasing cult following.

I am speaking, of course, about Captain Power and the Soldiers of the Future.
