Dan Trachtenberg To Direct ‘Y: The Last Man’ For New Line

New Line has chosen their director for the movie adaptation of Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra‘s brilliant graphic novel series, Y: The Last Man.

It’s being reported that Dan Trachtenberg, the co-host of the popular Totally Rad Show who showed off his filmmaker skills with that excellent Portal live-action short, will be directing Y: The Last Man. He steps in for D.J. Caruso who was attached to direct the movie for a long time, with Shia LaBeouf attached to star, before departing the project.

The Y: The Last Man project was removed from the back burner and made a priority in 2012, with the writers of Jericho, Matthew Federman and Stephen Scaia, grabbed to handle script writing duties.

New Line Cinema Makes Brian K. Vaughan’s ‘Y: The Last Man’ Priority; Begins Meeting Directors

Back in March it was reported that Matthew Federman and Stephen Scaia, a writing duo that had worked on the cult classic TV series Jericho, had been brought in to pen a new movie adaptation of the brilliant graphic novel, Y: The Last Man.

Now comes word that New Line Cinema is very much fond of the draft that Federman and Scaia turned in, and they’re putting Y: The Last Man at the top of their list of priority projects. New Line is also now set to start meeting possible directors for the movie.

‘Jericho’ Writers Hired For Brian K. Vaughan’s ‘Y: The Last Man’ Movie

Much time has passed since we last heard about the always coming but never arriving movie adaptation of Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra‘s incredible comic book series, Y: The Last Man.

Back in November of 2010 it looked like the long-attached director/star duo of D.J. Caruso and Shia LaBeouf were out and that The Incredible Hulk and Clash of the Titans director Louis Leterrier was a candidate to take over. Not much has been said since then, but now it would appear that New Line is ready to make another go of it.

‘Zorro’ Reboot On Its Way

What’s next after this?

Just when you thought the remake/reboot craze couldn’t get crazier, Deadline is reporting that Sony has hired writers Matthew Federman and Stephen Scaia to write a new take on the Zorro franchise, which would be based off of a novel penned by Isabel Allende, from 2005.
