If films like The Irishman, The King, and Marriage Story didn’t make it crystal clear how serious Netflix is about bringing home that Academy Award for Best Picture they were unable to win with Roma last year, they also have someone Oscar is quite fond of, none other than Meryl Streep, a 21-time nominee and three-time winner.
Streep stars in The Laundromat, which Netflix released an official trailer for today. But she’s not alone. Not by a long-shot. The movie is directed by Academy Award winner Steven Soderbergh, and she’s joined on the cast by fellow Oscar winner Gary Oldman and Antonio Banderas. And they’re just the tip of the iceberg; the cast is massive, with numerous familiar faces. You can watch the trailer and see the full cast in the synopsis below.

The film reunites the Oscar-winning actress with her Hunger Games director Francis Lawrence.
Jennifer Lawrence is many things, but one thing we have yet to see her be is a full-fledged spy. And it just so happens that she is starring in Red Sparrow, where she plays as a Russian spy forced into the world of espionage in order to protect the mother she loves so dearly.
Now Fox has released the latest trailer for the film, which reveals a little more of the plot and the circumstances that have led Lawrence’s character to becoming neck-deep in the spy game. Check out the latest trailer below.
The latest from Darren Aronofsky, mother!, starring Jennifer Lawrence arrives in theaters this week. But it’s not the only Lawrence movie coming soon.
Early next year comes a movie titled Red Sparrow, which stars Lawrence as a ballerina who, after a serious injury, ends up in a school which trains its students to use their bodies and minds as weapons. It’s based on author Jason Matthews‘ book of the same name.
20th Century Fox has released an official trailer for the movie, which can be found below along with a full description.
I think I remember the /film podcast really talking up Jaques Audiard previous film, A Prophet, and I even remember seeing the trailer numerous times in the theaters, but it never worked out for me to see the movie. It’s one I do want to watch eventually, even more after seeing his newest film, Rust and Bone.
The story revolves a father (Matthias Schoenaerts, Bullhead) and son (Armond Verdue), who seem to travel from place to place, as they struggle to make ends meet. It seems the mother is out of the picture for the moment, there is mention of her supposedly using the kid to traffic drugs at one point in the movie. They end up at his sister’s place and he seems to find a somewhat steady job working security and bouncing at a club. One night he meets Stephanie (Marion Cotillard, Dark Knight Rises) as she has gotten in a fight with someone, and he takes her home.
