‘Suicide Squad 2’: Jaume Collet-Serra Now The Top Choice To Direct DC Films Sequel
  |

Ever since David Ayer opted to take the reins on Gotham City Sirens in lieu of the sequel to his 2016 comic book action blockbuster Suicide Squad, it looked like Task Force X would require a new commander to call the shots on their next big adventure if the DC Films sequel was to be ready in time for its undated 2019 release.

The search for Suicide Squad 2‘s new director has not yet ended, but the current front-runner for the job is now Jaume Collet-Serra. Best known for making modestly budgeted action and horror hits like Non-Stop and The Shallows, Collet-Serra has seized the top contender position from Mel Gibson. Previous candidates also included Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland), Daniel Espinosa (Life), and Blade: Trinity director David Goyer.

I’m not one for the over-dramatized, based on a true story kind of movie. But for most of them, there is something special and inspirational that makes me want to know more about the subject’s story. Case in point, Hacksaw Ridge.

Now I didn’t know anything about Desmond Doss’ harrowing story of how he refused to take up arms during World War II, but ended up saving multiple lives during the Battle of Okinawa. But to see it on the big screen was something else. The fact that it was also directed by Mel Gibson did add some concern to it, given his outrageous behavior and reputation. Still, the film managed to meet my expectations. Check out my review below.

‘Blood Father’ Trailer: Mel Gibson Does His Best Impression Of Liam Neeson In ‘Taken’
  |  @   |

It is only natural that a father would come to the defense of his daughter, and it’s only appropriate to see to the lengths which that father will go to defend his daughter be a bit exaggerated in film format. You know, to keep you entertained and such. So after Liam Neeson did it for three films in the Taken franchise, why not explore that narrative once more. But this time with a bit of a new story and new actors.

That’s what you are going to get with Blood Father starring Mel Gibson. In the film, he plays a father who must now protect his estranged daughter from a dangerous drug cartel and his thugs. Check out the trailer below.

Disney In Depth: The Legacy Collection: Pocahontas CD Review
  |  @   |

Disney is on a roll with its Legacy Collection titles, which started off with a roar with The Lion King last summer and continues with Pocahontas. The Legacy Collection: Pocahontas demonstrates how capable Walt Disney Records is in producing a standout release that befits the film in which it was based. The Disney animated film, celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, may not be among the most popular of its contemporaries, but its music is just as stellar.

Here is my review of The Legacy Collection: Pocahontas.
