Though it has been decades since the first film starring Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke hit theaters, the sequel looks like it will carry on its legacy.
This time, Emily Blunt stars in the title role and will care for the Banks family once more when their family has run into a bit of trouble again. No one ever asked for a sequel (or prequel) to Mamma Mia! and yet, here we are, with Universal Pictures releasing Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, the newest installment of the musical franchise that has a penchant for breaking out in song and dance to ABBA. And here is the surprising thing about that hybrid sequel and prequel. It’s actually good. No, scratch that, it’s really good.
Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again is the film you can’t help but tap your foot to when the music feels good, and cry to when there’s a ballad to be sung. Though the story may be some white noise, the cast has fun with the material they are given. It looks like Greta Gerwig has found her next directorial effort following her Academy Award-nominated Lady Bird. According to new reports, Gerwig is in talks to direct a retelling of the coming of age novel Little Women.
The film looks to also feature a star-studded ensemble cast, with Meryl Streep, Emma Stone, Florence Pugh, and her Lady Bird stars Saoirse Ronan and Timothee Chalamet all in talks for roles. More on the story below.

Now Disney, the studio that first brought us the film adaptation, is ready to give us an update of the eponymous English nanny with a new semi-sequel titled Mary Poppins Returns. This time Emily Blunt plays the titular character that was first portrayed by Julie Andrews.
