‘Jem and The Holograms’ Trailer #2: “Showtime Synergy”
  |  @   |

Well, the first trailer for Jem and the Holograms failed to impress; in fact it got a wave of international negative reaction. The complete opposite of what Universal was looking for in its modern-day reimagining of the ’80s cartoon of the same name. The film will center on a young girl nicknamed Jem (Aubery Peeples) whose amateur music video was uploaded on YouTube and viewed over a million times, turning her and her band (which also happens to be her sisters) into an internet sensation. Having signed on to a major record labor the group goes on tour, but a greedy studio head wants to take Jem on a solo career, which would rip the family apart.

It’s the same old sing-song story about family sticking together kind of film we have seen in the past. But would a pet robot named Synergy who displays holograms of family memories to remind our lead character about the importance of family get you interested in the film? Well if it does, then you might want to check out what director Jon M. Chu had in store for Synergy below.

‘Jem and The Holograms’ Trailer: Insert “Truly Outrageous” Reference Here
  |  @   |

If you were a fan of the ’80s animated TV series Jem and the Holograms, you were probably super excited to see the upcoming live-action movie based on it. I say “were” because you’re about to not be anymore. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Universal Pictures has released the first trailer for the movie, and it’s…well, it’s not going so hot. Response to the trailer has been overwhelmingly negative, largely thanks to the movie based on a show about a music company owner who leads a secret second life as the lead singer of a popular band with the help of holographic technology apparently not having a music company owner who leads a secret second life as the lead singer of a popular band with the help of holographic technology in it. It looks more like a modern-day remake of That Thing You Do! than anything, but not nearly as awesome.

You can read more about Jem and the Holograms and see the trailer for yourself below.

‘Jem and The Holograms’ Director Talks Modernizing 80s Cartoon
  |  @   |

Adapting a classic cartoon series is always going to be a touchy subject for fans. So when Universal’s Jem and The Holograms hits theaters this October, you can count on them to find flaws or errors of their beloved series. It gets a bit more difficult when you have to put a contemporary spin on it. But for director Jon M. Chu, he figured out a way to give the film a modern take.

Chu talks about some of the changes he had to make to the film in order for it to relate to a modern-day audience, one of the biggest of which is that the title character’s holographic bandmates will be replaced by a sister and two foster sisters. We also have a bunch of new images from the film. Check them all out here below.
