As the web series based on this franchise continues to be relatively popular, New Line has apparently decided to cash in on the recent love for the Mortal Kombat.
Deadline is reporting that New Line has decided to set up a new, live-action reboot of the franchise, that will be helmed by Kevin Tancharoen and penned by Oren Uziel. That’s right, the same man behind Glee: The Documentary will be at the helm of a new take on the bloodiest fighting franchise around.
Fatalities are a crucial part of the Mortal Kombat video game franchise; the graphic and gruesome death of an opponent by your own hands has been satisfying gamers for years and is still going strong today.
But have you ever wondered what the Fatality finishing move would be for other classic video game characters like Mario, Link, or Pacman? Well, my friends, that day has now come. A hilarious new video has been released showing off the lost “audition tapes” of many different classic game characters, who use familiar elements from their own games to brutally end the life of a Mortal Kombat opponent.
You can see the video right now by continuing on below.
Warner Bros. officially announced production of a 10-episode Mortal Kombat web series based on the Mortal Kombat: Rebirth fan-made movie trailer released months ago. (Embedded below for anyone who missed it.)
The series will be directed by Rebirth creator Kevin Tancharoen and have Michael Jai White returning to play General Jax Briggs. No other casting news has been announced at this time and production will start some time in February.
So, has Hollywood finally come to its senses and realized the potential in producing original content for the web? Unfortunately, the answer is no for now.
It’s always fun to see a popular character from a video game or movie showing up in other video games and movies…but this might just be the most perfect crossover we’ve seen so far.
According to the January issue of the Official PlayStation Magazine, the brand new installment in the Mortal Kombat franchise will feature a very special guest: the vicious and brutal warrior from the God of War series, Kratos.
Kratos was born to do battle and end lives, and the carnage left in his wake is among the bloodiest ever seen within the realms of entertainment. Considering what he’s fought through in the three God of War games, many might argue that there isn’t a Mortal Kombat character who could stand toe-to-toe with Kratos, but there’s no debating how perfect his inclusion in the one-on-one combat game is.
