Bruce Campbell Wants Sequel To ‘My Name Is Bruce’ To Be ‘The Expendables’ Of Horror
  |  @   |

In a recent chit-chat, cult superstar Bruce Campbell touched briefly on a sequel to his movie, My Name is Bruce, which told the story of a small town that mistakes Campbell for his popular Evil Dead trilogy character, Ash, and asks him to help save their town from the evil monsters that terrorize them.

Most of the conversation was about his time working on the Evil Dead movies and the many stories that came from his experiences with director Sam Raimi, as well as whether the long-rumored new sequel would ever get made. As for that, Campbell said they’d all like to make another Evil Dead but no one has the time right now. He joked that Raimi puts out fake statements from time to time to get people excited, but with his blockbuster movie projects piling up and Campbell’s TV show, Burn Notice, it just isn’t happening soon.

When the topic switched to the My Name is Bruce sequel, which will be called Bruce vs. Frankenstein, Campbell made things interesting with an idea he has. His hope is to not only make the sequel, but to make it in the same vein as The Expendables with as many horror stars as humanly possible.

Bruce Campbell To Battle Frankenstein In ‘My Name Is Bruce’ Sequel!
  |  @   |

Bruce Campbell is one of the biggest b-movie cult status stars roaming the earth today. He’s not likely to ever win an Oscar, but he is considered to be a god among men to many, and this is something very few Oscar winners can lay claim to.

Because of the Evil Dead and Army of Darkness star’s status, people pretty much go nutty for anything they find out he’s doing, whether it be a cameo in the Spider-Man movies, or his own new b-flicks like Bubba Ho-Tep. In 2007, Campbell did a small cult movie called My Name is Bruce. The movie took place in the small town of Gold Lick, Oregon, whose not-so-bright teenagers desecrated a cemetery, accidentally resurrecting the Chinese god of war and protector of the dead, Guan-di. In a desperate effort to stop the undead being, one of the townspeople calls on his hero, Bruce Campbell, to come and save them, just like he does in his movies!

Well, Bruce Campbell fans can rejoice yet again. The actor contacted AICN this week with some news regarding a sequel to My Name is Bruce called Bruce vs. Frankenstein, which looks to begin filming in the approaching Fall season.

The Top 10 Bruce Campbell Performances
  |

Bruce Campbell. The man, the myth, the mighty chin.

In the realm of cult cinema there is no greater name than his. Bruce embodies all the great qualities we look for in our cinematic icons: talent, personality, wit, charisma, humility, grace, and honesty. He may never be accepted in the Hollywood circles like so many before him who got their start in B-movies and then forgot about where they came from, because Bruce will never betray his roots or his massive, well-deserved international fanbase. Any movie he’s part of, be it a clever cameo (the Spider-Man movies) or a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it bit part (the last shot of Darkman, The Demolitionist, several recent Coen Brothers flicks), is all the better for his presence alone, but Bruce has more acting talent than his extensive resume of Sci-Fi channel flicks, failed television shows, and countless convention appearances would reveal to the uninitiated.

Here’s a list of Bruce’s 10 best performances in film and television, in the humble opinion of this writer.

When you’re having as bad a week as I am a good movie can be like comfort food. It warms you up and lifts your spirits. When the movie ends you’re full of joy from being entertained and are ready to pick yourself up and get on with your life. Back in February I went through a bad break-up with my girlfriend Suzette. Since then things have cooled and she and I remain on good terms, but at the time I was devastated. I had the unconditional love and support of all my friends but I still needed a little more cheering up. Who better to cheer me up than the greatest of all B-movie actors, an icon and a living legend who even when it came to starring in loathsome direct-to-video schlock always looked and acted like he was having the time of his life? He is the man, the myth, the chin….Bruce Motherfucking Campbell!

This god among men is one of the truest honest-to-L. Ron Hubbard movie stars we have working these days. From the original The Evil Dead to the wonderfully heartfelt comic fantasy Bubba Ho-Tep, Bruce Campbell has built up a unique filmography with more than a few solid gold cult classics, a few too many turgid D-grade sci-fi and horror flicks, a handful of short-lived television series (I miss Jack of All Trades), and the occasional small (and instantly forgotten) part in a major Hollywood movie to pay the bills.

As if you didn’t know already, this is very much the Bruce Campbell show. At the beginning, after Clayton dares to say something bad about Bruce, Jeff says: ‘Get out of the car. You don’t like Bruce, you walk.’ I think this line sets the tone for the whole movie: you’re either in for the ride, or you’re out. I was in quicker than you can say “˜chainsaw for a hand.’

Jeff (Taylor Sharpe) and Clayton are driving, on their way to meet the Debbie’s ‘to get laid’ (where? in a cemetery. Duh.). Jeff and “˜big Debbie’ go for a walk to break stuff and as they do Jeff finds a mysterious amulet, which he pockets. Little did Jeff know he just opened a world of terror on his fellow townsfolk.

Guan-Di, the Chinese protector of the dead and bean curd (yes, bean curd), is awakened and starts his murderous rampage through the town. Terrified, the people of Gold Lick, Oregon, need help. They need back-up from someone who knows how to deal with evil monsters. They need Bruce Campbell.
