Night of the Living Trekkies

Earlier this month, Quirk Books released their latest mash-up novel Night Of The Living Trekkies, written by Kevin David Anderson and Sam Stall.

It’s a real fun book — yes, fun! — about a bunch of Star Trek convention attendees who find themselves faced with hordes of the undead! [Check out my full review of the book for my thoughts.]

Quirk has just released a trailer for Night Of The Living Trekkies, which you can watch here below.

I know, you’re probably not accustomed to watching trailers for books, but this one is pretty hilarious. Matter of fact, I’m just about ready to see this movie made!

Night Of The Living TrekkiesNight Of The Living Trekkies
Paperback
By Kevin David Anderson and Sam Stall
Quirk Books
Release date: September 1, 2010

Quirk Books has already proved successful with their literary monster mash-ups like Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters, and it looks like they’ve scored another hit with Night Of The Living Trekkies, a brand new tale based on two popular genres, zombies and scifi.

Written by Kevin David Anderson and Sam Stall, Night Of The Living Trekkies takes place during GulfCon, an annual Star Trek convention in Houston, Texas, hosted at the Botany Bay [wink wink] Hotel and Conference Center. This is not your simple Con — at this event, Trekkies and Trekkers (yes, there’s a difference and this story explains what it is) go out of their way to dress as the most obscure characters from the Star Trek franchise. The level of intensity in their planning and the creating of their costumes seems somewhat like that of the attendees of Dragon*Con in Atlanta, a cosplay-centered Con that takes place each year on Labor Day weekend, which was an appropriate time this year to release Night Of The Living Trekkies.

Night of the Living TrekkiesBack in March, Quirk Books announced that they’d be releasing the zombie-Star Trek mash-up Night of the Living Trekkies on September 1, 2010, but at the time, the final artwork for the book wasn’t available [see Trek Meets Zombies In Quirk’s Upcoming “˜Night of the Living Trekkies’].

Now, Quirk has released the final artwork. Check out the cover art here at right (click for larger, full view).

This new scifi/zombie tale, which was written by Kevin David Anderson and Sam Stall, is “Galaxy Quest and Dawn of the Dead as hordes of undead attempt to feast upon the attendees of a Star Trek convention, but a group of Trekkies fight them off using what they learned from old Star Trek episodes.

Our Trek uniform-wearing cover model, a zombie with a sports sack, is wearing a pin that says “No Kill I” and holding the detached arm of his victim who obviously will not live long and prosper. Also, it looks like these ill-fated Trekkies are attending an event called Wrath of CON.

Night of the Living Trekkies is available now for pre-order right now.

Night of the Living Trekkies

Quirk Books is adding a new zombie tale to their collection with Night of the Living Trekkies, a novel by Kevin David Anderson and Sam Stall which sees Trekkies at a convention meet the undead!

The publisher, which is known for its literary monster mash-ups like Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters, hails the book as the “strange lovechild of Galaxy Quest and Dawn of the Dead.”

When hordes of the undead come to feast upon the attendees at a Star Trek convention, a group of Trekkies fight for their lives using everything they’ve learned from old Star Trek episodes.

Quirk plans to release the new book — which is available now for pre-order — on September 1, 2010.

There’s no final artwork for the book at this time. The header here at top is part of the preliminary cover.
