This week, GM buys big into driverless cars, Google AI beats a Go grandmaster, Amazon Echo repeats itself, Oculus won’t be on the Mac, Tech encryption vs. the Feds in the news again, and Nike self-lacing shoes are here!
Back in 2011 Nike produced 1,500 limited edition replicas of the Nike MAG, the self-lacing sneakers Marty McFly wore in Back to the Future II. And while they were an awesome replica, they didn’t actually self-lace and it was impossible for most people without plenty of extra cash lying around to get their hands on a pair.
A few days after that announcement, shoe engineer Tinker Hatfield—creator of the Pump sneakers and designer of the MAG replicas—said they were still working on the self-lacing technology and would have it ready by 2015, the year they travel to in Back to the Future II. 2015 has come and gone with no self-lacing sneakers, but hope is not lost. Nike has released a teaser video for self-lacing sneakers called HyperAdapt 1.0, and you can check it out below.
This week, broadband gets a new definition, Edward Snowden on Cyber Warfare, ISIS may have hacked US Central Command‘s Twitter, Experts call for tighter AI safeguards, and those shoes from Back to the Future are finally going to happen. All this, and much much more…
This week, Twitter and LinkedIn benefit from a mobile boom, Are wearables dead in the water already?, Did the FCC just hammer the final nail in Net Neutrality’s coffin?, Netflix raises fees, Amazongoes forHBO — and smartphones, what happens when a hashtag backfires on you, and much more…
I love all variety of gadgets. I tend to jump on the bandwagon being pulled behind any new and interesting technology as fast as my wallet will let me. Sometimes I am rewarded, sometimes I’m disappointed, but I always enjoy the thrill that comes from experiencing vast leaps forward in technology. When Jawbone introduced the UP, I was in the middle of my fitness revolution and was immediately excited to try it out.
Not only does this little bracelet count your steps like a standard little pedometer, but it also tracks your sleep cycles. Jawbone promises that the UP’s gentle vibrations would wake you up at the optimum time in your sleep cycle to ensure a pleasant waking experience every day. Combine all of this with a colorful, fun iPhone app and you’ve got me hook, line, and sinker! I picked up this cool little device as soon as it hit the shelves of my local Target (Target always has all the coolest stuff).
