We had hoped it wouldn’t come to be, but 2021 turned out to be more of the same from the previous year thanks to the pandemic. Lots of hunkering-down isolating or enjoying the great outdoors more often than usual. And once again, books played a big part in helping us all cope and maintain some kind of normalcy. Now more than ever, books in all their various formats will make a great gift this holiday season. This year saw a resurgence of Dune; illustrated versions of J.R.R. Tolkien works; memoirs from the world of rock and heavy metal; graphic novel collections; fun, pop-culture-themed cookbooks; stories from the imaginations of Stephen King, Neil Gaiman, and Grady Hendrix; continuing adventures from the Star Trek, Star Wars, and Marvel universes, and much more.

If you hang out on the Los Angeles rock scene long enough, it’s likely that you will make some sort of acquaintance with the man, the musician, the legend, theBruce Duff. Duff’s high visibility is probably due to his ability to wear so many hats in the music industry including journalist, publicist, band manager, engineer, podcaster, author, and actively gigging musician. It was a crisp, Fall day in Los Angeles when I submerged into the offices that lurk beneath the Federal Bar to find Duff at his 9-5 gig at Knitting Factory Management to see what he’s been up to lately.
A California native, Duff was born in the city of Riverside. His initiation into rock n’ roll wasn’t about the sex and glamour that lead some down that wayward path. Rather, when Duff was around 10, he was at a child’s party when he saw a boy, even younger than him, pick up a guitar and start playing. “He looked like a rock star on television,” he recalls. And so, Duff was off on his journey.
On a recent episode of the trivia TV game show Jeopardy!, one of the clues that host Alex Trebek was tasked with had him reciting some provocative lyrics from the Motley Crue song “Girls, Girls, Girls” and he did so with his usual sass, which was quite amusing.
In a game that aired on February 2, 2015, the know-it-all host emphatically read the lyrics from the chorus to the 1987 rock song about – you guessed it – females strippers: “Girls, Girls, Girls… long legs & burgundy lips, Girls, Girls, Girls… dancin’ down on the Sunset Strip… Girls, Girls, Girls.”
The clue came from the “Hard Rockers” category and, thankfully, the contestant guessed the correct name of the hard rock group responsible for the hit song, which comes from the legendary rockers’ multi-platinum album, Girls Girls Girls.
Check out the video of Trebek reading the clue here below.
