Coverage of the big-screen adaptation of Stephen King‘s The Dark Tower doesn’t just stop at Idris Elba. Where there is a hero, there must also be a villain, and the villain of Nikolaj Arcel‘s film is known as Walter or The Man In Black, and is played by Matthew McConaughey
Below is the first look at McConaughey in the film, along the actor’s thoughts on the character from his interview with EW for their cover story. The actor speaks as though the antagonist really isn’t a villain, but rather someone who is sent who “exposes hypocrisies.” But he also gets into the film’s mystical aspects.
While Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey are currently promoting their upcoming films — Star Trek Beyond and Kubo And The Two Strings, respectively — they’re also in the middle of production of the big-screen adaptation of Stephen King‘s The Dark Tower, which tells the mythical tale of a Gunslinger. The series spans eight novels and mixes genres ranging from westerns, mystery, horror, and much more.
Elba and McConaughey have shared their thoughts with EW for their cover story on what looks to be a very exciting adaptation of one of King’s best novels, and the magazine has debuted the first look at the actors in the film. Now, we’re turning our attention to what Elba had to say to the magazine, which includes his excitement about playing Roland, addressing the controversy surrounding the character’s race, and his thoughts about the mystical themes. Check out what he had to say here below, along with the first look at Elba in the film. (Click here for coverage on McConaughey.)
Another actor is joining the cast of The Dark Tower, the first movie in the long in development adaptation of the Stephen King book series of the same name from Sony Pictures and Media Rights Capital.
It’s being reported that Katheryn Winnick, star of The History Channel’s hit drama series Vikings, is the latest to sign on for the movie. She joins a cast that already features Idris Elba (The Jungle Book, Star Trek Beyond) and Matthew McConaughey (Dallas Buyers Club, Interstellar), who are both set to play the Gunslinger Roland Deschain and the Man in Black.
It’s being reported that Idris Elba, the star of Luther, Pacific Rim, Marvel’s Thor movies, Cary Fukunaga’s Netflix original Beasts of No Nation, the upcoming Star Trek Beyond, Finding Dory, and The Jungle Book, and much more, is now in early talks to lead the cast of The Dark Tower, the movie adaptation of the Stephen King horror fantasy book series of the same name, as the Gunslinger himself, Roland Deschain.
If Elba is officially signed on, the showdown between the Gunslinger and the Man in Black could be Elba versus Matthew McConaughey, who was reported to be in early talks for the role of the villain last month.
