Oscars 2016: A Rundown Of The 88th Annual Academy Awards
  |  @   |

Oscars 2016 has come and gone. The stars walked from the Red Carpet in Hollywood. We saw what they were wearing. The winners were announced, and the 88th Annual Academy Awards, which was broadcasted on ABC live from the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, CA, tonight, is done.

There were a lot of intriguing storylines heading into this year’s show: Would Leonardo DiCaprio finally get his first Oscar? Would Sylvester Stallone win for a character he was nominated for 40 years ago? Would Alejandro Inarritu become the first director since Joseph L. Mankiewicz in 1949-50 to win back-to-back Best Director honors? What about the elephant in the room — the lack of diversity amongst the acting nominees for the second straight year — would it be addressed? What on earth would host Chris Rock say?!?!

Now the the ceremony is over, here’s a rundown of the evening’s events…

Oscars 2016: The Top 10 Movies NOT Nominated For Best Picture
  |  @   |

By the end of the weekend at this year’s Oscars, one of eight nominated films will be added to an eternal list of Academy Award-winning Best Pictures. This year’s nominees run the gamut of genres. There are two films detailing modern scandals (Spotlight, The Big Short), two “based on true story” historical set pieces (Bridge of Spies, The Revenant), one little international indie film (Brooklyn), a deep emotionally wrenching drama (Room), a film about someone lost in space”¦ again (The Martian), and a kick ass action thrill ride (Mad Max: Fury Road). Are these the actual best films of 2015? Well, that depends on personal preference and opinion. Based on box office, this year’s nominees weren’t close to being the most popular films. Only one — The Martian — finished in the top 10 grossing films of the year, and only three total were in the top 21.

So if the eight nominees aren’t your cup of tea, here are the Top 10 films of 2015 NOT nominated for Best Picture

Oscars 2016: Predictions For The Acting Awards Categories
  |  @   |

On Sunday night, Hollywood will get together for its biggest party of the year, the 88th Annual Academy Awards, otherwise known as the Oscars. The night promises laughs, shocks, and plenty of controversy as for the second straight year all 20 acting nominees are white. With comedian Chris Rock hosting, expect some jabs directed at the Academy.

I love the Oscars, even when I hate them. Movies are my passion and the biggest night in movies has become a holiday akin to the Super Bowl. Every year, I try earnestly to see all the films nominated for top honors, and I went over and beyond this year. Not only did I watch all 8 nominated films, but I watched 19 of the 20 of the ranked Oscar performances (sorry Charlotte Rampling). Since this is my first of several Oscars 2016 columns to come, I thought it best to start in the same way the big show begins”¦ no sorry, not with a huge musical number. Nearly every year, they open the awards distribution with a Best Supporting Actor Oscar. Last year, JK Simmons accepted his trophy for playing the deliciously malicious orchestra leader in Best Pic nominee Whiplash. Simmons, much more resigned than his ferocious role as Fletcher, encouraged everyone to call their moms.

So without further ado, let’s introduce the Best Supporting Actor and Actress nominees, and then move on to the Best Actor and Actress nominees. I’ll tell you who will likely will win”¦ but more importantly, who I think should win.

Oscars 2016: Mean Tweets Movie Edition On ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’
  |  @   |

“Mean Tweets” are one of my (and America’s) very favorite bits on Jimmy Kimmel Live. In honor of The 88th Academy Awards airing this Sunday night, the show released a movie star edition last night. They are always fantastic, as you cannot get any funnier or crazier than real life trolling tweets.

Check out the Oscars “Mean Tweets” video below (NSFW).
