Earlier this year Disney released a schedule of yet-to-be-announced film. Given the string of successful live-action adaptations and reboots the studio has gone through recently, it’s no surprise that they would be announcing release dates early on. One of those live-action films Disney has in store for us is the sequel to the 1964 film Mary Poppins.
Now the studio has announced an official title, Mary Poppins Returns, and a release date for the film. The film, which will star Emily Blunt and Lin-Manuel Miranda, is expected to hit theaters in December 2018. More on the story below.
It’s being reported that Emily Blunt has entered into negotiations to star in Disney’s sequel to Mary Poppins, taking on the title role played by Julie Andrews in the 1964 classic.
Though Blunt is in talks for the role, and is said to have always been the top choice to take on the iconic character, it’s not yet certain she’ll be able to take the job. The actress is currently expecting her second child, and there’s a chance that that could prevent her from being able to commit to the project.

The first trailer for Disney’s Saving Mr. Banks, which sees the great Tom Hanks becoming the man behind the mouse, Walt Disney, has been released online.
The movie tells the story of Disney’s often futile efforts to obtain the rights to make a movie based on the P.L. Travers (played by Emma Thompson) book Mary Poppins. Disney promised his daughters he would make the movie, but did not anticipate Travers’ strict refusal to allow her work to be transferred to the silver screen.
