For those who are unfamiliar with it, a new Silent Hill game titled Silent Hills was revealed back at Gamescom 2014 in the form of a crazy scary playable demo called P.T. If that wasn’t exciting enough, the game was going to be made by video game legend Hideo Kojima (Metal Gear Solid, Snatcher) and visionary filmmaker Guillermo del Toro (Crimson Peak, Pan’s Labyrinth), and star Norman Reedus (The Walking Dead, The Boondock Saints).
The publishing company behind Silent Hills, Konami, isn’t exactly the most popular kid in school these days for a variety of reasons, but one of them is the fact that they ended up canceling the game—a game that already had a massive fanbase excited for it based solely on the playable demo. Throwing it all in the garbage was a stunning and confusing turn of events.
Del Toro spoke about the game recently and shared his thoughts. You can see what he had to say below.
Earlier this year we saw a prototype gameplay demo for a first-person survival horror game called Allison Road. The game was initially just a one-person project, but overwhelmingly positive response to the demo led to the creation of a small development team now officially called Lilith Ltd.
A large part of this excitement for the game is born out of the excitement that gamers once had for a little playable demo called P.T., which turned out to be a new Silent Hill game being made by Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro with The Walking Dead star Norman Reedus appearing in the game. Unfortunately things didn’t work out with that game, but it opened a large door for smaller games like Allison Road to step up and be what those who were so excited about that game were so looking forward to playing.
Because the game and team making it are so small, they decided to take the crowdfunding route to achieving their goals, which makes all the sense in the world. You can read much more about the game and watch the Kickstarter campaign video below.
Last year during Gamescom 2014 a game was unveiled simply titled P.T. A terrifying demo for the game was immediately made available on the PS4, but once it was completed by someone the big reveal was that it was actually a new Silent Hill game being made by Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima and Pan’s Labyrinth and Pacific Rim director Guillermo del Toro with The Walking Dead star Norman Reedus playing one of the characters.
Unfortunately it all ended up being just a big tease as things fell apart, leading to the apparent cancellation of the game (though most surely still hope it will some day find new life). But one game is aiming to offer the type of horror P.T./Silent Hills once promised to deliver. It’s called Allison Road, and a pre-alpha prototype gameplay demo makes it look like a game that could fill that depressing hole. Fear junkies are going to want to keep an eye on this one.
Visionary director Guillermo del Toro (The Devil’s Backbone, Pan’s Labyrinth) is teaming up with the legendary gamemaker behind the Metal Gear series, Hideo Kojima, to deliver a new entry in the classic survival horror video game series Silent Hill, and it will star The Walking Dead‘s Norman Reedus.
Now that’s a mouthful. A mouthful of awesome. You can learn more and watch trailers and gameplay below!
