Two talented filmmakers are teaming up to write the script for a potential TV series based on Explorers, the cult favorite 1985 sci-fi movie which was directed by Joe Dante and starred Ethan Hawke, River Phoenix, and Jason Presson.

Cary Fukunaga and David Lowery are joining forces to pen the script, which will just be a pilot episode for now, and the potential show’s bible—a pitch that includes more information on the show, its characters, future episodes, etc. to help sell the potential series to networks.

Last year we found out that Netflix had given The Haunting of Hill House a 10-episode straight to series order. The show would come from Mike Flanagan, Steven Spielberg‘s Amblin TV, and Paramount Television.

After that it was revealed that the cast would include Carla Gugino, Michiel Huisman, Henry Thomas, Elizabeth Reaser, and Kate Siegel.

Three new actors have joined the cast of The Haunting of Hill House, the upcoming Netflix series based on Shirley Jackson‘s 1959 novel of the same name. The series comes from Oculus, Hush, Absentia, and Ouija: Origin of Evil director Mike Flanagan, Steven Spielberg‘s Amblin TV, and Paramount Television.

Boarding the project is Henry Thomas, Elizabeth Reaser, and Kate Siegel. They join the previously cast Carla Gugino (Sin City, San Andreas) and Michiel Huisman (Game of Thrones, Treme).

Director Mike Flanagan has been a force in the horror genre in the past handful of years, making movies like Oculus, Hush, Absentia, and Ouija: Origin of Evil.

Now Flanagan takes his talent for terror to Netflix for a new horror series. The streaming service has made a 10-episode straight-to-series order for a new adaptation of the classic ghost story The Haunting of Hill House written, directed, and executive produced by Flanagan, and through Steven Spielberg‘s Amblin TV and Paramount TV.

When it was announced that Bryan Fuller (Hannibal, Pushing Daisies) would be acting as showrunner for Star Trek Discovery, fans were excited at what he would bring to their beloved franchise. Since they got their first look at the show at SDCC and learned how the show would “explore stories from a different point of view,” fans have been eagerly awaiting the pilot, which will air on CBS, with subsequent episodes airing on the CBS All Access streaming platform.
