For a very long time, we were under the assumption that Overlord was connected to the Cloverfield universe.
That being said it looks like Overlord, the sci-fi World War II film with soldiers fighting Nazis and their supernatural forces, is not one. However, J.J. Abrams, who has been a producer on all the Cloverfield films, says that a true sequel is in the works. More on the story below.
Sure everyone was surprised when Netflix released The Cloverfield Paradoxjust moments after Super Bowl LII. While the excitement for yet another Cloverfield could not be contained, the reviews that followed after critics watched the film were swift. Many said it was easy to see why Paramount may have dumped the film on over to Netflix, who reportedly paid up to $50 million dollars to distribute it.
Now we are getting a better picture of why the studio may have done that. However, it also appears that this will be a one-time thing as the studio has every intention to release the next film in the connected cinematic universe, Overlord, theatrically. More on the story below.
The first look at Cloverfield Paradox aired during the Super Bowl on Sunday night, and in a huge surprise announcement, Netflix will premiere the film on their streaming service tonight after the Big Game!
After being delayed multiple times, the film continues the vague and strange marketing campaign that the Cloverfield films are largely known for. Even finding out who will distribute the film was a mystery. But Netflix is no stranger to releasing big teasers on Super Bowl Sunday. They started to practice that last year with Stranger Things 2, and look how successful that turned out to be.
Now the teaser offers a tiny sneak peek into J.J. Abram’s latest mystery box, and it is just as cryptic and strange as the last two. Check out the first look at Cloverfield Paradox here below.
