Fans of grunge should be delighted to learn that during its 20th anniversary year the excellent Temple Of The Dog album is available on MP3 as part of Amazon’s monthly $5 MP3 Album Deals.
Following the death of Mother Love Bone singer Andrew Wood, Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell wanted to put together a tribute to his late friend. The roots of grunge behemoth Pearl Jam are here with Jeff Ament and Stone Gossard finally joining up with future Pearl Jam bandmates Eddie Veddar, Mike McCready and Soundgarden drummer Matt Cameron (who is now Pearl Jam’s drummer). The result was this: the eponymous album Temple Of The Dog.

Celebrating the 500th episode of Late Night With Jimmy Fallon last week, director Cameron Crowe discussed his new documentary Pearl Jam Twenty, due out in theaters on September 20, 2011. He also brought some goodies along with him and there’s video proof. It’s like a Pearl Jam party on my laptop!
Check out all the clips of Crowe and Pearl Jam, who performs a song, from the episode here below.
The MP3 album deal of the day over at Amazon today is Pearl Jam‘s 1991 debut album Ten for only $3.99.
Math time: Typically, MP3 songs sell for $.99 each, which means in order for the $3.99 MP3 sale to be worth it for the buyer, there has to be at least four songs on the album worth having. In my opinion, every song on this album is awesome, but here’s a few: There’s the hits “Even Flow,” “Alive,” and “Jeremy”; throw in any other song on the album (e.g., “Black,” “Why Go,” “Porch,” “Garden”) and there’s your justification for shelling out a mere 4 bucks for 12 songs.
Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell joined Pearl Jam on stage on Saturday, September 3, during the second encore of the band’s 20th anniversary live concert, turning the set into a Temple Of The Dog reunion.
Cornell performed four songs with Pearl Jam at the concert: Three Temple Of The Dog tunes — “Hunger Strike,” “Say Hello 2 Heaven,” and “Reach Down” — as well as “Stardog Champion,” a cover song from of Pearl Jam predecessor Mother Love Bone. You can watch all the videos here below of the four songs they performed at the concert in Alpine Valley, WI.
