In Pitch Perfect 2, the Barden Bellas are graduating, and most of them have to come to the realization that there is life beyond collegiate a cappella competitions. The film has such a strong female presence, that the male cast are the supporting players. It’s a nice change of pace. Skylar Astin plays Jesse, another a cappella singer and Beca’s (Anna Kendrick) boyfriend, while Ben Platt plays Jesse’s best friend and Emily’s (Hailee Steinfeld) love interest.
We were recently invited to the film’s press conference where we talked about what it was like to work with Elizabeth Banks (who makes her directorial debut), improving, the evolution of their characters, some hilarious outtakes, and more.

Pitch Perfect has become a cultural phenomenon. It has been three years since the surprise hit took the world by storm, with fans singing Cups and adding the “aca” prefix to almost every word imaginable. Now we have a sequel. Making her directorial debut is Elizabeth Banks, who was a producer and champion of the first film. In Pitch Perfect 2, the Barden Bellas have to perform against the world’s number one a cappella group, Das Sound Machine, at the World Championships in Copenhagen.
Banks, along with producers Max Handelman and Paul Brooks, talked about the sequel, selecting the right songs to fit in with the themes and narrative – secret songs that will only appear on the DVD, the awesome fans, and much more.
Pitch Perfect 2 brings back the multi-cultural quirky Barden Bellas to the big screen. In the film, the all-female a capella group suffers a humiliating performance, and must find away to restore their reputation. Rebel Wilson returns to reprise her role as the unfiltered highly confident Fat Amy, and we had a chance to sit down and talk to her at the press conference for the film.
During that time, we learned about some of the physically demanding stunt work she had to do, some intimate scenes that didn’t make the cut, not holding anything back for the sequel, being an inspiration to young girls, and much more.
The first trailer and Super Bowl spot for Pitch Perfect 2 only provided a sampling of the plot of the upcoming a capella sequel starring Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson. The tone for both were a bit somber and gave us a few chuckles, but the latest trailer brings back a lot of what made the original so funny with witty and sometimes raunchy humor (courtesy of Wilson), and banter between film director and star Elizabeth Banks and John Michael Higgins.

Super Bowl XLIX would be the last place you would think you’d see an ad for Pitch Perfect 2, starring Anna Kendrick. But with the first film’s popularity, there is really no reason to question the decision. The latest TV spot is more or less like the teaser trailer that was released earlier this year, with a few hints of new footage and jokes. And since it is the Super Bowl, it only seems fitting that the ad feature some players from a football team – in this case, the Green Bay Packers.
