New Trailer For Disney’s ‘Cars’ Spinoff ‘Planes’ Released

Recently we saw a musical trailer for the upcoming Disney animated flick Planes, which is a spinoff to Pixar’s Cars franchise. Now comes a more traditional trailer, which includes a glimpse at the underdog storyline involving the little crop dusting plane that could (voiced by Dane Cook)—who also happens to be afraid of heights—in the race of his life, and a listen to some of the movie’s voice acting.

Disney’s ‘Cars’ Spinoff ‘Planes’ Gets A New Musical Trailer

A new trailer for the upcoming animated feature Planes has been released by Disney. The movie is a spinoff of Pixar’s Cars movies, but instead of owning the streets this movie of course takes to the skies.

The trailer is a musical trailer, without any dialogue or story and set to some of the film’s score by composer Mark Mancina as visuals from the movie play.

Dane Cook Lands Lead Voice Role In Disney’s ‘Planes’

What initially started out at a straight-to-DVD spin-off of the Cars franchise has since transformed to a full-length feature film, Planes, which will be released by Disney. Announced back in 2011, Planes was to feature the voice of Jon Cryer (Two and a Half Men) as Dusty, a crop duster. Since then the film moved on to become a feature film and somewhere along the way Cryer dropped out and now Walt Disney Studios has announced that Dane Cook will replace him.

Cook may have been courted for all sorts of comedic projects a few years back, but his stock has also dropped along the way. His last major starring role was in 2008’s My Best Friend’s Wedding. Attempts at getting a pilot run and a stage show into production did not pan out.

Disney Set Release Date For ‘Cars’ Spin-Off ‘Planes’

Originally planned as a direct-to-video release, Walt Disney has decided to lock in a theatrical release date for their movie Planes, which is inspired by the world of Pixar’s Cars, and follows…you guessed it, airplanes.

Disney has reserved the August 9, 2013 spot for the movie, which will be made by DisneyToon Studios, not Pixar. Pixar legend and Cars director John Lasseter, however, will oversee the project, as he does for all DisneyToon and Walt Disney Animation titles.
